Maintenance Advice on my new Tacoma

    I just picked a second hand 2013 Tacoma a couple of weeks ago. Coming from an old Jeep Wrangler - i love having a pickup truck. Im looking for a little advice. I try and do all mechanic work on my own cars and have a good selection of tools. Im definitely not an expert but can turn a wrench. Im basically looking for a list of things I should have a look at and see what sort of state it is in. The truck has 150k miles on it and seems to drive pretty well. Any advice from you folks would be definitely appreciated.

    Very nice looking Tacoma :thumbsup:

    Personally I'd Check/replace the air filter and cabin filter. The latter usually gets ignored. Plus fluids. ie differential fluid(s), transfer case if 4x4 ( l can't tell in the photo) power steering fluid, engine coolant, maybe a drain and top up of transmission fluid. Possibly even brake fluid. Serpentine belt!
    But I'm thinking of all the above because you might not know what's been done.
    If you can confirm that some of the above has been done, then a few less things for you to think about.

    Cheers for that. Definitely a good place to start. Here is a photos of the cabin filter.
    Its not a 4x4 unfortunately so no transfer case.

    Given that, I'd also recommend you pick one of these up b/c with that filter in that condition, your A/C is likely in need of killing the germs / mold and freshening things up. This works really well in my experience

    2.5 inch lift, 285/75r16s, upgraded stereo system, Magnuson mp90 supercharger system.
    I wouldn’t mess with those ac in can products the high and low pressure sides need to be correct. You can make your system function worse then when you started but that just an option. After seeing a filter come out that dirty I would put it on jack stands and inspect everything I could. All fluids, belts hoses. Check out your suspension make sure everything is right and tight. Pretty much all the same stuff you do to your Jeep I would think.

    Do you know when the last oil change was?
    Seeing that cabin filter and how bad it was, makes me wonder about everthing else.

    Those aren't factory fender flares.
    Is it a 5 lug or 6 lug Tacoma?
    If it's a 5 lug that's an aftermarket lifted suspension and, given the condition of the air filter, I'd check that too.

    Cheap to add to the list, so I'd want spark plugs and PCV valve done, too.
    Grease and inspect play in all the u-joints.
    Inspect play in the front wheel bearings by shaking the s#$% out of each front tire (fore, aft, side to side).

    You have a point, but would be surprised to know how many people in this day and age have no clue their vehicle is equipped with a cabin air filter.

    Clean MAF sensor and throttle body
    replace serpentine belt (check idler pulleys while doing this)
    Change coolant and possibly thermostat/upper + lower radiator hose
    Grease all the u joints
    Rear diff fluid
    Fluid film the underside
    Flush power steering fluid
    change spark plugs
    change air filter

    None of the above is difficult or expensive if you do it yourself. Enjoy your ride!
