So about 4 years ago, I had severe pain and had no clue what it was. It was a gallstone obstruction in a duct. Had the same experience exactly 2 years ago with severe pain in upper abdomen and Rt. upper quadrant. I got all kinds of check ups at the hospital and they said i have sludge and some small stones. They wanted to remove my gallbladder but i got scared/chickened out and came home after 2 nights in the hospital with IV ATB's because i had a gallbladder infection due to the stone being stuck for 4-8 hours and crazy pain, i also had clay colored stools, very dark urine, constipation/bloating, yellowing of eyes. Ive kept it in check with diet/exercise, but now its coming back and feel slight pressure and sometimes when i eat fatty foods my liver or around my liver hurts, i also have fatty liver.

anyone try any home remedies? ive done epsom salt flushes for gallbladder and stones, apple cider vinegar, etc.

I had mine taken out about 3 or 4 years ago after several horrendous gallbladder attacks that would last 8+ hours. I can't even imagine going through that again. I feel for you.

You can get it done at an outpatient clinic and go home the same day. Your 2 nights in the hospital were likely more expensive than the surgery will be. I'd highly recommend having it removed. Life is way too short to put up with unnecessary pain, especially that kind of pain.

As a nursing student you are putting yourself at a huge risk for a whole heap of problems not addressing these issues, including liver failure, portal hypertension to hepatic encepalopathy, all of which I'm sure the doctor told you already. The best thing you can do if you don't want to remove your gall bladder is to really change your diet you need to focus on the TLC diet and AVOID alcohol or any other toxins. Your liver is a tough organ but once you reach a certain point in damage from bile obstruction, etc. its not a pretty picture pathology wise. Sorry to hear and I hope you find a solution. Let me know if you have any questions, etc.

So you should know better and treatment options / interventions! Glad you made an appointment. Good luck and wishing a speedy recovery.

@13tacosport can you describe this severe pain?
I’m having upper left quad paid for the last 6 weeks. It was Dx as costochondritis but I’m still having pain that worsens if I don’t eat over 12 hours or when I eat it worsens.
I’ve been on a 6 day prednisone taper and 14days of Neptoxen 500mg every 12 hours.
I have an appt with my GP on Tuesday.

I’m frustrated and tired of being in pain :(

Sorry to hear! Hope it goes away soon! Mine was right upper quad and middle of chest. It was a sharp pain, kinda like contracting and sharp at same time. I didn’t have back pain between shoulder blades cause my gallbladder wasn’t full of stones. I was in a fetal position basically crying or wanting someone to just shoot me lol

    Thank you
    My pain is like 5-7/10.
It comes in waves and its worst after I eat.
I’m just tired of being in pain and docs not believing me, like I’m drug seeking even though I never ask for pain meds when I go into Urgent Care.

Its not excruciating but pretty bad.

My pain is upper left quad radiating to my back.

I hate to admit I passed out twice last night due to pain

Unfortunately I’ve torn my meniscus and am having surgery Feb 7th so my tolerance for being in pain and cripple at 28 years old is capped out, especially because I’m an athlete and am used to training 15-20 hours a week.

Mine was upper right quadrant under breast area and radiated to my back. I started vomiting yellow bile. I had two ultrasounds before this that came back no stones, just a fatty liver. Having it removed was the best thing I’ve ever did.

if you’ve passes out from pain you need to go be seen.

So early Dec I came down with some nasty lower respiratory virus. It was all in my lungs and I fought a 102F fever for 3 days even on
Ibuprofen. I had a pain in my back/upper ribcage during that time but it went away as my virus went away.
Over Christmas break the pain came on so bad I couldn’t stand up. I went to urgent care they said it was likely costochondritis because there was no symptoms associated with eating or tenderness and only pain on insipration/expriation. I got the Prednisone and Naproxen 500mg.
That seemed to be helping the last 3 weeks.

Weds I went for a 14 mile long run and by mile 5 my stomach was cramping. I thought it was the yogurt I ate prior to the run so I figured suck it up and keep going. Next day I was still in pain and figured, oh shit it must be the Naproxen causing stomach pain so I stopped it, but the pain is not getting any better 3 days later.

The pain in my rib cage is slowly going away. So it appears as if I did have costchondritis but the pain that is remaining is in my abdomen/diaphragm area.

Its just odd to me why everything came on at once. If its my gall bladder why at the same time as everything else?

I don’t think it’s your gall bladder the sickness cause severe inflammation, you just need to relax and let it subside. Don’t exercise or lift weights for a while, I understand that’s going to be difficult for you but gotta do it, also watch your sugar intake due to prednisone or other steroids always raise blood sugar levels. Also they lower your immune system to increase vit c and zinc and healthy foods

This is what docs have been telling me. The pain is severe but it will subside with time. I just wish “with time” wasn’t months.
No one is giving me a good understanding of what to expect so I keep thinking something more is wrong.
I’ve never dealt with something like this before.

Pretty sure you had a bad infection which is why u had 102 fever. I’d say 4-6 weeks minimum man, get rest, let it go away. Get well soon

I used to work with some R&D scientists who studied the microbiome. I asked one of them for a recommendation of a general, all-purpose probiotic for maintaining good gut health and they suggested taking Saccharomyces Boulardii - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saccharomyces_boulardii you can get it over the counter, apparently it helps to remove bad-gut bacteria to allow for the good stuff to stay and aid digestion, immunity and metabolism. Go see your doctor and follow their advice.
