Okay so this is my 1st truck and I want a tonneau cover, I like the tri folds look and I have a budget. What would you guys recommend that's not overly expensive and is good durability and style? Thanks

I've had this one on for 3 years. Fairly waterproof, inexpensive, rolls almost completely out of the way, has held up to the rocky mountain elements well, un garaged 365 days a year. I think it looks good, although its a roll up, not tri fold and looks are subjective. Not super secure as it is vinyl if that's of concern to you. Anyways, I'm sure you'll get a few other opinions on this subject, however there's a few dozen of the same or similar threads on here if you search. Good luck on your quest for the right Tonneau!

That’s what I have. You can probably get it for 100-150 off on Black Friday.

If you're looking for a tri-fold, do you want a soft or hard tri-fold? There are pro's and con's to each. The hard tri-fold will provide more security, but costs more and is heavier to remove. The soft tri-fold is cheaper and easier to remove when you want to use the full bed, but provides less security since it can be cut open.

For me, I was not concerned with security. I'm just looking to keep stuff relatively dry and out of site in the bed. And my truck is garaged most of the time. In the past I had a roll-up cover, which was nice since I could have access to a full bed at any point. This time I went with the tri-fold because I want to be able to take the cover completely off (no tracks left on) in the warmer months. Ideally I'll have the cover on when we travel and during the winter months to keep the snow out of the bed.

I went with the Tyger tri-fold based off price and reviews. So far its been great for the few weeks I've had it.

There is a thread for people who are wanting to sell and buy factory tri-folds. I gave $450 for the one I got.

I'll second this. I bought the Tyger soft tonneau about a week ago. It's like $230, and the reviews for it here and on Amazon are stellar. And I've only had it for a week, and I can say it's really, really well-made for something that's this inexpensive. I don't really expect it to last years and years, but for the price if it gets through a few upstate NY winters I'll be happy. I had similar needs: 90% of the time it'll be covering an empty bed, and the rest of the time it'll be covering a couple hundred bucks worth of tools or old golf clubs or something. I'll never need it to protect anything of great value for very long: maybe my family's luggage on trips when we stop for lunch or whatever.

I almost bought a Bakflip; I have this issue where whenever I decide to make a big-ish purchase, I spend a few days talking myself into the biggest and the best, regardless of whether I actually need the biggest and the best. I like the idea of a hardcover tonneau and some aspects of a hardcover like the bakflip would have been super useful a few times a year. But the rest of the time it'd just be really expensive overkill, basically. (Though admittedly: hard folding tonneaus look badass, which if I'm being perfectly honest with myself is like 75% of the reason I wanted one in the first place.)

So far the Tyger's stellar. The corners kinda popped up when I first installed it, but over a couple of days as the vinyl stretched into place and settled down, it lays perfectly flat now. It's been raining for several days up here, and the bed's almost perfectly dry. Installation took all of 45-50 minutes, and most of that was me fiddling with it and getting familiar with it. I didn't need the weather stripping for the front of the bed, but I did cut little strips to build out the foam in the front corners of the cover: those were the only areas where I saw daylight when I dry-fit the cover. It looks like it'll take five minutes to take off and put back on for when I need the full bed. Plenty of reviews say it holds up to a full snow load just fine, so we'll see.

I had the ExTang V1.0 on my Ram for 5 years and loved it. It was the aluminum skin version. I could go through a car wash and it did not leak. The tailgate itself did a little but not the cover.

Picked up my new 2019 Tacoma and wanted to go with that same style as it was easily removed and did not leave any hardware behind in the bed. However the ExTang 2.0 is all poly and the prices are much higher than when I purchased the 1.0 ver.

I went with the Tyger T5 tri-fold off Amazon ($499 shipped).

    https://www.amazon.com/Tyger-Auto-T...uto+t5+tacoma&qid=1568563926&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I like it pretty well however:

1.) The rubber is so firm that is does not mold very well to the pattern on the bed sides and leaves air gaps all over. Also with the front bulkhead sitting higher than the bed sides, it raises the whole thing up in the front and leaves a large gap there as well. I am currently in the process of removing all of the tonneau weather stripping to replace with softer material. Also going to put thinner weather stripping on the front edge. This should make a much better seal.

2.) The clamps work with some cheesy aluminum brackets that mount to the factory tie down rails. These are not needed in the from and you can mount directly to the side tie down rails. The quick release latches in the back do not give me confidence they will stay latched so I am replacing them with the same hand screw type used up front and get rid of the additional brackets.

I have a little work to do to make it perfect but I really like the aluminum skin tri-folds for their durability and ease of removal without needing any help. Good luck with picking something.

Love the look of your wheel/rim combo. Cover looks really good too. Might go with that myself.

If you dont mind me asking, what is your wheel/rim combo? Any lift?

Check out the Lomax, its a hard top trifold that is really low profile. I just got one from @truckalter He set me up with a pretty good deal, definitely recommend dealing with him if you like the Lomax!

    Love that cover.

My truck came with a Bakflip MX4. Love it so far. My only gripe is not being able to utilize the entire bed when it's attached to the underside clips. There is still about 12" of room left. Other than that, it is pretty damn rugged, and secure. The additional water drainage rails are good, too. No leaks after any washing.

Side note: What side steps are those?
