    Hey everybody

I have had a very lengthy discussion with my dealership in Victoria bc and was directed to talk to Toyota Canada. Toyota Canada is releasing a letter to all the dealerships in the next two weeks stating that they are authorizing the recall on non original Tacoma grills provided they are the trd black grill I believe so there is some hope of Toyota not being assholes to us that want to modify our trucks....

My dealer in penticton did the sensor recall but would not install the heritage grill today. They told me that Toyota is discontinuing this grill because of the calibration issues. They seem so clueless about what they are doing with any trucks that have modifciations. They keep telling me different things.

Interesting i have not heard of this calibration issue. Mine would not install it period but the work around is to order the toyota one from the states through eBay.

I have scheduled mine in for next week at Ken Shaw in Toronto. I asked the service advisor if having a different grille would be an issue. He said as long as its a Toyota part it should be fine. I guess we'll see.

Dropped my truck off this morning, then I get a call an hour later saying they can't do the recall. Initially because they need a part (advisor wasn't specific on what exactly, I'll clarify when I pick it up) to perform the recall on a TRD Pro grille, they only stock what is needed to fix other style grilles. But also he said he'll need to contact Toyota corporate about my truck since I installed the grille after the fact.

Anyone in the GTA have this done with a TRD Pro or aftermarket grille? If so where?

I might be talking to myself here but I just wanted to finishing off this topic. Ken Shaw Toyota finally got back to me, they will do the recall but if there is any modification that changes the ride height of the sensor (i.e. bigger tires, lift, different grille) then there is a disclaimer you need to sign saying "you understand that Radar cruise/PCS might not work properly" and they change the default setting of the Pre collision system so that it is turned off every time you start the truck. Then you'd have to go through the menus and turn in on manually

Default setting can be change back by anyone with techstream but I don't really want to deal with signing the disclaimer so when I put my stock sized winter wheels on, I will install the original grille and have the recall done.

    Good luck folks

Looking at a 2020 sport at Vandermeer in Cobourg and planning on putting in the heritage grill. The dealer sounds a little hesitant to put it in for me I guess this is why. I assume any issues with the sensor would have been fixed for 2020's anyways, but the new grill would still change the location of the sensor to be lower. Unless I lift it which would then throw out the calibration on all the other sensors anyways lol.

The recall doesnt include 2020s so you should be good.

As far as moving the sensors, I dont beleive it is as critical as Toyota is claiming. During normal driving conditions the front end moves around quite a bit up and down during braking and over bumps etc. How could lowering it a few inches sensor screw it up that bad? Only real issues reported is with lower quality grilles and sensor covers.

If you want OEM try Scarbourough Toyota Parts online (not the dealer, the website), that where I got mine, it was the best price in Canada I found

Just spoke with my dealer. They offered it installed for a whopping $865, and said that it may require a $250 calibration after to ensure the radar works correctly

Thats insanity! If I were you I try finding a used one or sourcing it yourself from the states may be cheaper. Car-part.com lets you check parts at local wreckers

Lol yes it is. What’s more insane is that I’m actually considering it to save myself the hassle of ordering it from states and then looking to make sure it’s got the proper cover for camera. Then if it’s wrong I have to try to return it.

Have also heard they are trying to limit oem grills to stop people from doing this. Not sure if my dealer would offer recalibration on an after market grill if I install it myself
