Help me with a combo!!

Ok my heads spinning from all the looking. I pretty much decided on my wheel/tire combo, which will be 285-70-17 on procomp polished 1059's. Now my dilemma is a lift to accomodate it. In a earlier post I was thinking a 3" readylift kit. I'd like to hear suggestions. Maybe 5100's set at 2.5? Also any rubbing. Some do some don't from my searching. I'll be doing some light offroading, no rock climbing, jumping, etc.

I've been doing a *lot* of research on this since I'm currently shopping for lift, rims, tires for my 2011.

I've decided on a 285 70R17, same as you. Folks successfully run that size, but you have to be careful. That's a size that's prone to rubbing a lot on our wheelwells.

Here's a cautionary thread:
Now, you've chosen a 9" wide wheel - that will stick out pretty far with the 4.625 backspacing and -8mm offset, and make for even more rubbing. The mounted tire may well be a full half inch wider on that rim than the same tire would be on an 8" rim! BUT I keep seeing pictures of Tacos with Moto Metal 957s, which are a 17x9 with -12mm offset!

Tire sizes vary based on brand as well.

A lot really depends on how you're gonna wheel it. I was talking to one installer who said something like "just don't turn the wheel all the way to the locks" - and that's certainly one option. Personally, I plan to stuff 'em hard, so I'm not gonna risk it.

Anyhow.... you might want to reconsider to an 8" wide wheel - just my two cents.

Also if you're going to wheel hard, be prepared to remove the mudflaps, trim away considerable plastic inside the fender well, and cut & cover the body cab mount.

Now, for the lift, opinions vary widely. Personally, as inexpensive spacer lifts go, I liked the reviews of the RevTek, which mixes a preload spacer with a top spacer and a differential drop to get to 3" without stressing any one part too hard. It's available with either add-a-leaf or block rear, according to your taste. Les Schwab installs those, as do many other shops, including 4 wheel parts.

That being said, many would die or sell their trucks before putting on a spacer, so be forewarned that strong opinions lurk here.

The hangup is, again I talked with my potential installer (not 4 wheel parts) and he rang up his pro comp rep, who said that particular liftkit is on 41 days of back order! So if 4WP doesn't have it already in their warehouse somewhere, you could be waiting a while...

5100s is a good option - but that doesn't lift the back, so you need to pick an Add-A-Leaf or lift block to get the rear higher.

If you're willing to spend more and get a better ride and more off-road capability, well, there are even more options to make your head spin.
