Need to know what's involved in removing the bed of the truck. Step by step if possible

Assuming the bolts come out, then getting the bed over/off of the fuel filler neck because unless you have someone hands free just for that job, everybody's hands are tied up lifting the bed. It's still no big deal though, just a bit tricky.

If you are just going straight up and putting blocks under it, probably less of a concern. The few times I have done it though, I have been completely removing the bed off to the side, so the filler neck has to be dealt with.

I guess if you could tilt the front up enough, then go straight back, you might clear it more easily. Anyway, no sweat for you and 2-3 other guys.

can you remove the filler neck before hand
maybe remove the tank before the bed is off?

i am going to assume it is quite a bit more difficult to reinstall the bed after the work is done?

Don’t bother with any of that. The fuel filler neck isn’t that much of a problem.

not really, it’s all pretty easy. I did mine by myself with the help of a pulley and some rope. It’s not a hard job at all.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
You have to remove the tail lights, disconnect the wiring harness for the tail lights that connects to the underside of bed. Before doing that if you have a spare, drop it and get it out of the way. Remove bolts that connect fuel neck to bed. Remove all bolts that connect bed to frame (6). Its easier if you have 4 people as it will require you to lift up a bit to remove bed.

Once you have the bed off inspect all fuel lines, charcoal canister lines, fuel tank, frame, and fasteners. Its a good idea to clean everything up and coat with Fluid Film or protectant.

I did not have to remove any bolts on the fuel neck on mine. It just slid through the hole when I lifted the bed off.

i most likely have to remove fuel tank when i can be able to get the bed off to cleanup underneath
seems it will be quite challenging, looks straightforward but there is over 22 years of midwest winter weathering, the bolts on the fuel shield skid were relatively easy to remove after soaking and light ratcheting
no pulley and no rope so i guess its do or die for me at this point
not sure how much the professional help is gonna cost but i need to check (if they give a bloody rats ass that is)
