Hello Everyone,
I am thinking of using a turkey baster to remove the power steering fluid in my Tacoma and replacing it with Lucas.
How much fluid do I need because I have yet to locate any information about this topic in my owners manual.

Remove as much as you can, replace the exact same amount. Run the ruck around the block. Repeat 2x. Return the still full bottles.

 

Have you opened the cap? The actual opening is small, around 1/2". Most turkey basters don't fit. You'll probably need a suction gun.

You just need generic Dexron 3. It's cheap at the Toyota dealer, some $5 for a bottle, and you'll need less than half a bottle.

Dexron 3 is transmission fluid, so is that ok to use it in the power steering system?

Save your money, Lucas won't do anything special for your power steering just use whatever is on sale

 

Dexron 3 is spec'd in the owner's manual for the power steering system for 2nd and 3rd gen Tacos. Don't use dedicated power steering fluid - you might get leaks due to chemical incompatibility with the rack seals.

Don't use Toyota WS transmission fluid (which is actually in the Taco transmission) in the power steering system either, since it's lower viscosity and might cause leaks.

I use a dedicated gear pump fluid pump. Put the end in reservoir and put tube in bottle to catch fluid

 

Also your truck manual says use ATF for the power steering system

 

Now you're going to make me go look. I'd swear the cap right on the reservoir says WS.

 

You can attach hose to a syringe to extract fluid

 

Dexron is the correct fluid

 

Just looked and there's nothing on the cap, so it was my imagination. Note the thread I linked above has several mentions of using WS, which is what I used. I plan on doing a flush and swapping in the Dextron. Thanks for the heads up.

I will get some Dexron 3 and have at it.
My 2013 Taco only has 43,000 clicks on it but I want it to last a long time so I am willing to take care of it to the best of my abilities.
I recently purchased this second hand from a Toyota dealer outside of Pittsburgh, Pa and while it is in good shape overall, the frame was slightly rusted and it also had many scratches in the Nautical Blue paint. POR 15 addressed the rust issues and Maguires Scratch X 20 did a wonderful job on 90% of the scratches.
I changed out the fluid in the front and rear differentials as well as the transfer case.
I will not drain (or should I say pump out) the transmission fluid for a while but it will get done around 90,000 clicks.
Ok, thank you all again very much and I now know where to go for future support.

Just checked my maintenance logs and I used Maxlife rather than WS, so I should be good.
