What I am going to do, is pop the hood, hook the controller up, and lightly close the hood (first click) and operate the winch from inside the cab, pulling my self out. That is the goal for this year, lol. All the other guys are mounting there control boxes for the winch inside the engine bay, so I guess it is not a big deal, better that than out in the open on the bumper.

    What hasn't been modified?
With the wires controller you get set up before getting in and releasing the brakes. Wouldent spin the tires, it’s just digging you in deeper. Let the winch do the brunt of the work while the tires roll and get out of the holes there in.

And your correct, the steel line should have a weighted blanket or something on to help but what if it breaks between the truck and that weight?

Next year for that, or wireless remote. I am pretty much done for mods on my truck this year. Out of funds, there is always next year!!

True. I might just buy a nice synthetic rope then before I start using it heavily. Did not know the steel cable breaks so much. I do not do any hard off roading, so it mostly will be light recovery, nothing to hard to pull out.

I replaced my steel cable with a syn line early on, just in case and also ditched the hook for one of these.
I prefer to use shackles rather than hooks...

That is when you are rich!!. I am probably going to replace the steel cable soon. So down the road, can I set the VR8000 up for wireless remote, or no?

Yeah, I am looking into that right now lol. Wireless is what I want to go to, if I can. If not, in cab winch controls, but even that is down the road!!

If you do hard pulls with the steel rope you will scar the drum which can damage the synthetic rope and cause premature failure. If you are going to switch to synthetic you should do it early.

You have never been stuck in Florida gumbo mud. You pretty much have to spin the tires while winching out.

Ordered the synthetic rope today for it. Also mounted the fairlead/ winch to the bumper. Can't mount the bumper to the truck yet, as I need the spool the synthetic rope on it. Also bought the connector's/ wire today to extend the winch controller to the engine bay. So once my synthetic rope comes in, the bumper is going on the truck.

Well, I got it on today! My 2 AWG wire came in, a few days ago, hooked that up. My 20,500 lbs synthetic rope came in, spooled that on the winch (thanks guys for convincing me to go rope, vs steel cable shaved a lot of weight). Still have to finish hooking up the winch controller/ mounting it in engine bay, ran out of time today. Thanks again for the help on this guys!!-
