Hi all, my first post and happy to be here. First vehicle was a 97' Tacoma and then an 02' Tundra. I'm finally upgrading from that to a new 2020 TRD Off Road in a couple weeks and couldn't be more stoked.

My question is about the Android Auto integration. When I went to the dealer yesterday to check out my options for the trim levels I got to mess around with the Android Auto for a little while. It looks great and seems to have a bunch of great features but my god is it SLOW. Changing menus and getting music to play was a chore with how bad it chugged along. I'm just wondering if any other 2020 owners are experiencing the same issue?

I don't think it's a problem with my phone as It's less than a year old OnePlus 6T. I'm really wanting the 2020 but the dealer has a few left over 2019's that I might consider getting if the issue is this bad with everyone else. Even though I'll lose out on the LED headlights and the larger screen.

Thanks in advance for any help!

No sense in going backwards to a 2019, you can use the head unit exactly how you would use the 2019 through Bluetooth if Android Auto isn't working as expected. I'm sure a lot of factors go into how well it works, even down to the phone specs though. If you bought the 2020 solely for Android Auto and nothing else then moving back to a previous year model may be more beneficial when it comes to purchase price but other than that I would just say use it as you would if it were a 2019 model year.

@ParadigmShifter As an old Google Pixel XL phone and 2018 model Kenwood aftermarket head unit (DMX905S) user, nothing is slow for my interface at all. I really enjoy the AA features and added front camera. *IF* you go with <2020 you have some great options and perhaps a really good deal. Good luck in your shopping and welcome to TW!

Get the 2020 and replace the HU. 2019 is no worst.

I have an Android HU that beats the crap out of anything Toyota will ever release and on top of it, has AA support.

    Hey Wahoobie,

How does this Unit look in your truck? I am going to go down this path soon with my new truck to get the android auto and (19 Sport DCSB), and curious how it lines up and looks inside the truck? To the unknowable passenger (meaning someone who didn't know you installed it) does the unit look seamless in the space? I am just concerned it would stick out some, and look "aftermarket" like some loser in a mod-ed up 2014 Honda.

    Many thanks for your thoughts.

It has a filler but I think it color matches well and is very clean looking:

I would have gotten a wider screen if they made it but they were not on the market.

Thank you sir for the post, especially with the picture. It does look nice in, and you are right, looks like the screen could have been bigger (if they sell one). Might be why the 2020 is a bigger 8 inch screen, yet fits into the exact same space.

Okay, I think I'll go ahead do this. They can always roll out updates to AA anyway. Thank you

I love my DMX905s too, for the price it is awesome and the capacative screen is so much nicer. The only thing is the wireless android auto takes a bit to connect (maybe 15-30 seconds?) but you can always just do wired.

I'm sure you could sell the '20 OEM HU pretty easily.

I went with wired as it was always 100% reliable..and it charged while connected.
