lol spare tube is the least of your worries when riding alone. injury or heat stroke/exhaustion are both what I was getting at.

 

Meh. I'm more than familiar with the heat and stay hydrated. No worries here. Its only an hour or so of riding anyway.

 

alright help me out here, not foreseeing a real soon bike purchase so I need to do something to this bike I've got...especially replace the tires.

Need to ping John about those pedals again, but I need some tires. Recommendations? The front wheel can be tubeless, but the rear cannot. Do I go tubeless tire on the front or stick to the same as the rear simply for replacement purchases?

 

I'd stick with tubed for the time being. That way you only have to carry the appropriate fix for tubed tires and not both. I'm a fan of my WTB velociraptors, but I'd also be fine with any Maxxis tire depending on what they're suited for. Ran Maxxis tires on my BMX bike they were awesome using them for what they were made for.

I've watched videos and heard good things about the continental tires.

Question though, my stock ones are 27.5 x 2.1. Do you think I can go 2.4 wide?

I bet you could squeeze them. Just take some measurements beforehand to double check. From videos I've watched (because that makes me an expert), you'll notice a difference in that tire width.

 

if a tire is "tubeless-ready" does that mean it can still be used with a tube? or tubeless only?

 

Yeah, you can still use it with a tube. Once you go tubeless, you'll need a new valve stem, a tubeless rated tire and some sealing goop. I'm not sure what its called, you can probably find it on Amazon. Also, not entirely sure how you'd get the bead seated since you don't have a special pump. I've seen them in the past, these pumps have an air reservoir that you pressurize, then release all the air at once to seat the bead. Maybe it isn't necessary, but it sure does make it look easy.

 

yeah on this bike for now I'll stick with tube, just gotta find the right thing. not many 27.5 x 2.1 for a decent price. i'd love to put Maxxis on it but not really worth it for this bike. those are like 50$+ a pop

 

Just swap them out to your new bike once you get it?

I'd buy tires, personally. Maybe not super expensive ones, but at least some decent ones. Yours look trashed. Especially if you want any enjoyment from riding.
