But real Chevy Novas; the type with a V8, 4-on-the-floor, and positraction...

By the way, I just remembered that when I was 13, I had a crush on my friend's 36-year old blonde mom!

I remember working with a kid as a teenager and his mom was around that age at that time, she was a hot blonde that drove an SHO Taurus.

I had a crush on my 6th grade English teacher, and I remember she drove her husband's stick shift 1995 Nissan truck from time to time. This was in Washington state, on Whidbey Island. We lived there from 2000 to 2002. One thing I remember about Whidbey Island is that there were a lot of stick shift vehicles and a lot of vehicles with no air-conditioning. When I took an art class in the summer of 2002, the instructor drove a blue 1990ish Chevy Celebrity wagon that did not have air-conditioning. One of my dad's coworkers in the Navy, a reservist whose day job was a school principal, drove a 1989 Chevy Astro van that was a stick shift and did not have A/C. He donated the van to purple heart in 2006-2007 with something like 400K on the clock. This coworker remember my obsession with that van and requested that my dad update me on it.

I saw a 1991-1992ish Jeep Cherokee Sport 4-door 4x4 with a manual transmission and no A/C, an early 1980s Mercedes diesel sedan with a manual transmission and no A/C; When I went to Camp Moran in spring 2001, one of the camp counselors had a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder 4-door with a manual transmission and no A/C!

    @shakerhood

One of my teachers had a 1992 Mazda Protege, manual with no A/C; Another teacher at that school had an old Subaru Justy 4WD, manual with no A/C...

I've seriously never seen such a high concentration of manual transmission vehicles with no A/C in one place!

I remember those Subaru Justy cars, almost think they had some weird 3 cylinder engine of some sort.

They did have a 3-cylinder engine!

Also, the aforementioned blue Celebrity wagon was an automatic; I don't think those turds came with a manual transmission...

The parents of this one kid I know bought their daughter a white 1992 Toyota Tercel 4-door with an automatic transmission but no A/C as her first car. My friend's dad had a red 1989 or 1990 Honda Civic hatchback with a manual transmission and no A/C!

    Very sad indeed.
    I was a frequent visitor in the 70's ,80's and early 90's.
Went to the SummerNationals every year and some of the Wednesday night Funny Car shows.
    Saw MANY record runs.
Had many friends who raced there and helped them out. Going 3-4 rounds made it a late night...esp. when we headed home when a Giants game was ending at the Meadowlands. Gridlock and Good Times.

Took the Nova there in '87 for the Street Machine Nationals.

I remember standing facing that tower when the jet cars were blasting afterburners.
Those big windows were flexing so much I am surprised none blew out.

Sad to see... what’s the story with the temporary building on top of the drag strip? Is racing done with there, or are they still using another track?

Sadly I see this hobby slowly dying off as the baby boomers age. They are simply too old to be going to these things and kids today would rather drive a paddle shift car than even think about learning stick or how to wrench on their own car. Racing is left to video games. Sigh.

A little something every chance we get.
Thanks for the update. Maybe. RIP Englishtown. From Michigan/Texas, never made it to an event, but a part of my Hot Rod growing up. Unbelievable that it is somehow "not a thing"!

This is a Honda Street EX 4WD. I spent the first Saturday of October 2019 car show hopping, and spotted this in the parking lot of a small shopping center in Huntingdon Valley while driving from Ivyland. I had never seen or heard of this model prior to seeing this particular example. I searched "Honda Street" on Wikipedia, and it turns out it's called the Acty. Street is a trim level. Based on what I've seen in pictures, this appears to be a 1990-1996 model. A peek through the window revealed that this example has air-conditioning and a factory AM/FM cassette. It had a manual transmission (according to the Wikipedia page, 4WD models were not available with an automatic). There were no rear seats that I could see. In Pennsylvania, any gray market vehicle 25 years or older can be registered as an antique (I've seen a Trabant 601 with a PA Antique plate!). You will immediately notice that this particular one has a "Conserve Wild Resources" specialty plate, which can be issued to any passenger vehicle or truck. This Honda also has current emissions and safety inspection stickers. I can't imagine it would be hard to make a JDM Honda 3-cylinder compliant with US emissions regulations, but the bigger issue tends to be the fact that a lot of these vehicles were never crash-tested in America. Unfortunately, since it does have an American VIN, I can't run the license plate through Carfax...
