I noticed like PapaRee post #2924 that one of my KCs had a cracked lens. Think it might be that I loosened a few screws for a test of how tight they are and maybe when I re-tightened the torque difference was enough to cause a crack. I'm not to worried about it, but don't think I'm going to loosen any more screws, as I was going to paint the PCBs black. If the others crack, then there is something else going on, but wouldn't think so, they are going to have lots of heating and cooling cycles in their life (screws were just a little more than snug).

My concern is about leaking of the KC 4 on a 2d gen. found the thread for 2d gen and there it suggests buying another thick foam gasket if you damage the original gasket, and saving the chrome plastic piece (water intrusion in a 2d gen can't be good, they didn't come with sunroofs which would include drainage channels at least around the sunroof.

I guess 3d gens are supplied a gasket, but not 2d gens. I'm going to wait to spring before disturbing the third brake light, so I'll have time to see if I'll need to RTV the whole thing, and maybe I'll find a better gasket for the job.

Really wanted to wait for the Meso plug and play harness. But I’ll be doing sharkathon down in South Texas so I went with @forrest1st ‘s mock up

I had one of my clears do this exactly in the same spot as your first picture. Though I was really careful and only went snug but must have went a bit to tight. All of my other lights are fine and are holding back water from the pressure washer no problem. Cracked ones not leaking either, can only see it if you’re on top of it.

Yea, I haven’t had any water in the light yet either. I’m gonna leave it alone while I start saving up for new $30/each lights again. I just wish that I could buy the lenses only.

You and me both, I got one spare red one if the reds ever crack but not clear’s. Cyclones are usually 50$ up here, Amazon sometimes has them on sale for 39$.

When I was buying lights for this mod I actually ended up finding a Jeep 4 rock light kit in red on amazon for 100$!! It was 25$ a light, I only needed 3 but it was still way cheaper than buying 3 individually, + now I got harnesses and a bus bar if I ever feel like doing rock lights. That kit is normally 399 up here so it was a hell of a deal. Might even put rock lights on the taco now.

Ha! I’ve got 2 extra lights now with no lenses. Might be a good idea to use them as some sort of rock lights. Just need to construct some sort of home made lenses. Maybe I can buy some thin sheet plastic and cut some out?

    Awesome work Forrest!

I had a similar issue on my 2019 OR with the mounting bolts and did a slight “ream out” with the drill to make it fit. Very simple and glad you mentioned it in your video.

    Forrest,
    Well done.
Add one vote for more install videos. I bought the same set up with the cam and I'm curious to what system you will be using to bring video into the etune system. Right now I'm leaning toward the Crux system so I can add a front video or "Grille Cam" later. But I highly encourage you to video more as I'm sure there are others who like and need this help. Thanks again.

BTW- I think you and I got the same "unpainted" MESO 3rd brake light. Did you end up painting yours? I'm thinking of painting mine even though the unpainted version could work as is.

I went with a module off Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DKH6J4W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works well, but I would be interested in the CRUX system you mentioned. I have a grill camera, but the module I have doesn't allow me two have two cameras and still use my backup camera. that's why I never posted a install video, because I really am not happy with the outcome quite yet and would like to deliver the best info possible.

I thought that it didn't look painted. I ended up just leaving it. I'm about to head to the antarctic for several months and may take it off and paint match when I return now that I know it isn't actually painted.

FYI: I don't know if I read it from MESO or another thread but I think they used
SEM Satin Black Chipguard - to paint the housing. I'm still assembling parts for a major mod that will include the 3rd brake light but I'm waiting for Black Friday to make some final purchases for things to fall into place.

Also there are more threads about multi-camera use but here's one talking about the crux system- in this thread there are dealers who can provide the unit for multi-cameras.

There seems to be a mix of Bd5 and BD4 having the fob issue. Right now I have the bed light in the off position and the fob works like normal but of course defeats the whole purpose of having the bed lights would love to hear if anyone else has come up with a solution would love to be able to use the bed lights again but the doors locking and unlocking without me standing there till the dome and map lights go out to do so does not make any sense

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve was concerned with the wire gauge since it only looks like 22gauge (at most) in the factory harness. I’ve also been 1/2 thinking of wiring up them to come on with the reverse lights as well, which would mean running extra wire up there and moving them onto a separate circuit that’s switched from either reverse or bedlights. Since there is obviously a power draw issue, you just made up my mind to do that. I’ve got to pull the interior apart to run the camera wires, so may as well run the extra wire at the same time.
I’ll test both circuits and report back if moving them onto their own fixes the issues.

    is the cause clear?

does this affect the MT key fobs?

wonder if I should wait to install. everything's ready to go, just need a little time. maybe it's now time to wait..

No clear cause yet meso has some ideas but a lot of them require removal of the molding once it’s already siliconed on so most people haven’t tried them...it’s not all the Bd4 or bd5s but with more people stepping forward it seems to be something worth looking into.
