Obviously this is for flooded batteries. What about AGM? Thanks for the info.

I wonder how many people with wet cells ever check specific gravity even once?

X2 27F checking in. The starter turns crazy fast compared to the stock battery

As a retiree from Interstate, the point I take issue with is your assertion of batteries be "refurbished in Mexico". Nope. Many go there for recycle, but certainly not for refurb. Many, just like a lot of stuff, are made there. Other that that, for the typical daily driver, a wet cell battery is indeed the most cost effective way to go.

Here is my 27F X2 from Batteries Plus Bulbs. My dash cam runs until a pre-set voltage and my truck sits weeks at a time but starts up really fast and strong every time. With the factory battery, the truck wouldnt start if i didnt unplug the dash cam. It fit well, I just replaced the plastic battery tray with one out of a 2nd gen with towing package and had to modify the mounting bracket by drilling out the fixed j-hook from the bracket and replacing it with a new j-hook with a screw/nut on the end. I still could have used the bracket without modifying it, but i wanted it to fit better without the bracket being slightly bent. I just wish it was red to match the TRD CAI that i have installed. 7C36E43D-0090-419B-888F-14D508DECA49.jpg

Just noticed my engine bay looks exactly like @fake4x4 above! Even with the green windshield washer fluid!

The X2 27F AGM battery along side with this has been extreme useful, it feels good having access to a “hot” power source with the truck off. AD592A37-AB85-4826-83C5-7981480174FE.jpg

All of our testing was on agms. Only added the acid part for more info as i used to work at a national chain store that did this. But i will agree with @cwdog that for 98% of car owners agm is a waste of money. The advantage to agm is that you can deep cycle them to exhaustion and bring them back with a hard charge. One discharge below 11 volts on a flooded cell has already sealed a premature fate for it. The draw back to agm is that they don't do well with high amp sudden outrush... Like cranking. Flooded cells are vastly superior in these applications. So unless you are running a stereo or lights or fridge the flooded cell is probably your better option. Unless you live in extreme heat environments.

Did you modify your book also like the guy above?
I don’t need one now but have it on the purchase list for when the time comes.

    ???

Did you mean Hook? If so, yes, that was me that modified my j-hook.

I ground down the weld at the top of the j-hook attached to the existing battery mount with an angle grinder just enough to remove the hook, then i sanded the surface down and painted it black. Then i purchased a new j-hook and screw. I need to find my invoice to get those part numbers.

Ah yes auto correct. I’ll have to take a look to understand. I’m a ways out of this but think when I finally get a dash cam that this maybe a good option.

 I just scrolled up to “the guy above” and didn’t realize that was you too

So you are basically stating some if not most AGM owners on this thread have wasted their money. You did state 98%.

I disagree with your opinion having owned both types of batteries. "Cost effective" can be interpretated many different ways. There are certainly many affordable and "cost effective" AGMs available for today's daily driver Tacomas.

First of all, the criteria you are using to determine you need a battery is not scientific. Get a voltage meter or take it to an auto zone to measure the actual voyage output. Go from there. Could be any number of other issues too.

The fact that most AGMs can be discharged up to 80% hundreds of times is cost effective for me.

Never said I “need” another battery. I’d simply like a little more. Like the member above said, he can feel how quickly his truck turns over compared to a stock battery.

Maybe not scientific, but after seeing that dealer service invoice with cold cranking amps compared to stock above, it’s not like I’m what I’m noticing is far fetched..

I put in a single x2 27F and I can run my fridge off it for days at a time before it cuts off (run time is ambient temperature dependent obviously). The stock battery could go about 12-24 hours before it would cut out. Truck cranks and starts noticeably quicker than it did with the factory battery.

I have Costco batteries in all three of my cars. They have been great for years and no issues. If you’re sticking on the highway like me, likely no reason for more expensive AGM batteries etc.

My OEM died at 2 years and 9 months, My 24FAGM battery was only $155 From Samsclub was less than $40 more than old type battery

The "Cost effective" is a few thing.

1- AMG "should" last twice as long so the cost per year is lower.. I put 4 batterys in my old car (19) years i had it every 3 to 5 years

2- the cables will be cleaner over the years So better contact.

3- I don't have to worry about the tray area corroding away from spillage. !!!!! a BIG plus as i want this truck for +15 years.

4-AGM can recharge up to five times faster so if run down, Like in winter and it's -15 out and you get a better recharge if you have shorter trips. Designed to handle extreme temperatures

    5-Outstanding vibration resistance

6- can't wait to get a Lithium Titanate Oxid 1/3 the size and 20 to 30 years life

SO -Just get a lower priced AMG if your not pushing it , spend the big $$$ if your hard on it and offroad a lot = money in the pocket in the long run..
