Want to put a trd locking diff in but I need to know if the switch goes through the computer or just the switch. Please help

Factory elocker is controlled by a computer.

Swap the entire axle, buy complete plug and play harness from 12voltguys and be done with it. Just add power and ground, can't get any simpler then that.

The factory one is controlled through the computer, but if you're adding one after the fact, it is not NEEDED to go that route. It's probably more complicated if you do.

The only reason it is computer controlled (IMO) is for the 4wd guys. The computer doesn't allow you engage the locker unless you're in 4lo. Being a PreRunner, obviously that is not a thing (plus, there's a mod to circumvent the 4lo thing anyway).

There are plenty of threads of people adding an elocker and just wiring a switch directly to the locker. No need to involve the computer system.

If you want to get fancy, you can find a wire that's controlled by the ignition, so it can only be engaged with the truck running - that sort of thing...

If you don't want to make your own harness, here's one. A bit pricey, but it's pretty idiot proof.

    factory is computer to
    -disallow engagement above 5mph
    and
    -disallow if not in 4lo

but a simple wire mod makes it work at any speed

so, all you have to do is wire voltage to an e-locker and have a switch to engage/disengage and
trust yourself not to mess with it at road speeds

I think 'grey wire mod' is the thing to search for, for e-locker wiring articles
