    Hi,

I had a `86 pick-up before ... just landed in a 1998 Tacoma with a V6 and 5 speed. 80-something thousand miles. Nice truck. Looking at getting new headlights and replacing inner door handle.

There's a couple odd sounds I notice, not sure how much they matter:
» In neutral with clutch out, there's a squeaking. Touch the clutch at all and it silences.
» As clutch is fully depressed, the pivot groans a bit.
» When pulling into a drive way, there's a loud clunk from front suspension.

But it's a great truck and gets 19 mpg, which I think isn't too bad.

    Anyway, *waves* hi.
    - Chris

Welcome! Sounds like you got an awesome truck!

    1. Throw out bearing. Very common. Most of us learn to live with it.

    2. Sounds like you could use some grease on the clutch pivot points. Brake grease works great

    3. Check front suspension components, sway bar links, tie rod ends, coil springs. Sounds like you have some "play" (movement where it shouldn't be) in the sway bar links

Post some pics of the truck!

Welcome to the forums! Agreed on the throwout bearing, I used to have a Thunderbird that sounded like it had a giant cricket living in the bellhousing. I got used to it.

    Cool truck! I don't think I've ever seen a 5-lug 2WD with a V6.

    Welcome!

Those noises are the throw-out bearing and clutch pedal linkage. It's common.

I'm not sure if it's the cheap tires or not, but it's almost undriveable in the rain. :burp: 1st and 2nd lose traction pretty easily and I did a little bit of a hero drift around a turn in 3rd. :burnrubber: Thankfully, I've simmered down in my later 40s or I definitely would have ended up backwards on the side of the road. :boom:

Yep, a light duty pickup with a torquey V6 and a manual transmission make for interesting driving experiences. I had a friend who had a Ranger 2WD with the 4.0 V6 and a 5-speed, and that truck would burn the rear tires all the way through third gear on dry pavement, without even breaking a sweat. It was a hoot to drive.
