I'm curious what everyone is doing for camp trash. The obvious solution is a trasharoo, but I don't have a swingout. The other obvious solution is just use a trash bag tied to a tree or something, but that never works real well in my experience.

I have considered a trasharoo on the tailgate, but when I'm going to need the trasharoo the most (cooking) the tailgate will be down making it pretty useless.

I've thought about welding up a box that will install to the right of the fridge. Or perhaps something that hooks over my bumper bars that I can hang while at camp.

Just wanted to start a brainstorming thread and see if I get any ideas from this, or if I should just accept it and put a trasharoo on the tailgate.

My tire is vertical so trasharoo can go on that or i just use the bed for typical trash like cans, water bottles, chip bags etc.

I was considering that. Standing up the tire like yours and trasharoo on that. Downside is if the softopper sides are down it’ll be a little harder to get to. I think I just need to go get some metal and weld up a box for next to the fridge

Why not just use some angle and make a little trashcan holder for one of those little office type ones that you can take in and out.

That’s a great idea. See skip, I knew there was a reason I kept you around. And why I started this thread, to brainstorm.

I just use a contractor/lawn grade black trash bag. They’re big so they’re easy to tie off and tough enough to survive a couple days of getting trash tossed in them and hung up around campsites or in the bed. If I’m by myself I frequently use a grocery store plastic bag since I don’t make a lot of trash.

I have thought about this too but I just don't really care for the look of those trasharoos. I just end up using one of the contractor grade bags that can really handle some weight and abrasion from the other things jostling around the back of my truck. Using one inside a 5 gallon bucket may protect you from liquid getting out as well and could double as a john in an emergency.

Maybe you could strap a trasharoo to the rear bumper hoops? Wouldn't be permanent but could maybe keep the smaller critters out of it at night.

I don’t really create a lot of trash either. Normally I just use my friends trasharoo but I’ve found it’s not always convenient if he’s a couple trucks back.

I’m loving hearing what everyone is doing. Keep it coming.

Hey I’ve got me one of them! Could play around with it. Good idea. I like the idea of something that can close.

I think what’d be perfect is basically a mini trasharoo that is the height of the bed rails. Maybe I need to just break out the wife’s sewing machine

Trail snacks just get tossed in the back seat then cleaned out at camp or gas station

That’s what I’ve been doing and so far it’s working, but I’ve been trying to come up with a bette solution since I cut off my swingout. Literally the only thing I miss about it is the trasharoo

I always re/prepack all of my food/gear to reduce trash as much as possible. But a 5 gallon bucket & lid with a 13 gallon trash bag is about as simple as it gets. Can also remove the bag and repurpose the bucket for hauling water, kindling, etc.

Maybe a 5 gal bucket with this screw on lid?
Wonder if you could line with trash bag seal it down and use the screw on part???

I wonder if I could modify my bathroom solution to accommodate trash.

I’ve thought about buying this pop up trash can several times
What i have been doing recently is hanging a trash bag off the square silver metal (steel? Aluminum?) D ring thing where the tailgate latch clips. So when my tg is down i put the edge of a trashbag up thru it and then “lock” it in with a 3-4 inch twig, works fine haha

If you feel the need to have some elaborate large capacity trash containment system, you're probably just generating too much trash.

After 3-5 days camping with the family (wife plus 8 and 10 year old), we barely fill one of those small kitchen trash bags (excluding beer cans/bottles, lol).

Just get a milk crate with a trash bag in it, or if you want to seal it, use a Homer bucket with a trash bag, and bungee it in the bed.
