Couldn't you just get an OEM reboot kit, pull it out, reboot, and then reinstall? That would be the cheapest route.

You do know most of these come from the same place, right?

I went with the Napa and warranty. Some go with Autozone.

OEM is most definitely manufactured to a higher standard. The uniformity of the constant velocity joint is bar none when attempting to compare to aftermarket. The machining, parts, materials are all of a higher mark. OEM cv axles will suffer higher stress angles for a longer duration versus the aftermarket. The list can go on. The price is high(factory parts always are) but online dealers are easy to find for discounts.

Rebooting factory is always a better(albeit more tedious task) option than the aftermarket lure of a $40 lifetime cv...

Napa/Autozone/part store CVs are not the same quality as OEM

That seems super high to me. I swapped 600 for 650 on my coilovers using Harbor Freight death compressors at home. Might be worth looking into, I know they are sketchy and a pain to get the adapters between the springs, but only cost $25 and a bit of my time.

You can get CVJ axels for tad bit cheaper than OEM ones. They rebuilt OEM toyota axels.

A few mods here and there and counting....
Did you go from 13in to 14in springs as well? I had several members told me the same thing. They quoted me an hour of work and with their spring compressor, its probably 20min of work tops. Just need to move the collar up an inch. I will give it some more thought. I guess my initial thought is, will the death compressors fit the springs.

@lawless this is what I did. added the inner high angle boot too. You can ship back your OEM for some money back but I just kept mine for a spare.

i have been noodling this one.

word on the street is auto parts stores have weaker axles than OEM. i remember reading an explanation of this somewhere. maybe it was the CVJ website?

i was planning on driving up to Seattle this weekend for MLS cup when i realized the CV would not make it. there's a guy in Portland selling a rebuild OEM for $150. if i had the trail repair chops i would make a go of this.

I believe I have a non oem axle in my garage. Come get it for $30. I’ll need to double check make sure the boots are good on it first though.

So. Would you pay $80 for a Xenon bulb or $400 for the OEM bulb? How's about a drive shaft that's half the cost of OEM's $1700? They're exactly the same spec.
In both cases, these parts are exactly what is sold by OEM-except the packaging and the price tag.

NAPA axles are warranted until you sell the truck. People like to say the Napa axles are lifetime cause they break all the time. Imma go with "that's not the reason"-the reason probably has more to do with how people use their vehicles.

I don't know you can make the argument "higher standard" unless you were considering something made by Tata or one of its companies :D

is it rebuilt or a take-off?

it's possible that this is just CVJ marketing, but they do make a the higher standard claim:

I have been looking at the Zmodo on Amazon. These are wired cameras-I would choose wired over wireless any day. For 8, $400. Good for 65' with night vision. Almost pulled the trigger today. There's another setup that's like $1200-similar features but 3x the cost.

8 cameras might be overkill for my tiny home, but the price is frkn great lol

I'm looking at the 8MP Reolink and similar 8MP on Lorex, will 2MP be enough you think?

I think the quality might suffer. My thing is get something that gives you good video quality-you know how shitty those convenience store clips are on COPS :D

A friend of mine has a Zmodo system which is why I'm considering it. The night images are pretty good though I'm not sure you'll get outstanding features if the suspect is wearing a hoodie or hat.

As far as QTY go, I feel like you need as many angles as possible for best ID-so one on each side of the house for coming and going. Another at the front door. Down the sides of the house and the yard. You should cover exterior doors individually as well. I figure 8 should be enough.
