So I'm going to be getting an old truck soon. I like that the 89-95 use the 22RE, I plan on getting one.

Anyways I was wondering what's the best way to get the most fun from the truck?
In the past I had a long travel total chaos front suspension, I'd like to get another one, but people on another forum are saying leave it stock for reliability.
Also, id like to get bigger tires, was thinking of going with 31's

Is it true that if I go long travel and don't really beat on it too much that it will have reliability issues?

Any advice or suggestions? Let looking to make my truck reliable, that's why I'm going with the older Toyota and cheap to fix.

Do y'all recommend UCA's coilovers long travel or simply just bigger tires for best bang for the buck?

    Looking to spend $2000-2500

    Someone from another forum says
"Big tires decrease gas mileage and require a gear change in the differentials to allow the engine to make enough torque to climb a small hill. Goofy big suspension stresses attachment points, universal joints, steering couplers and arms, change one thing and something else will break sooner or later. They rub on fenders too."

Is it true that total chaos will likely damage these components?

Are 31's too big for the truck?

from 1986-1995 they used a torsion bar front suspension, there use to be companies that made long travel suspension for them but I think those companies are long gone now.

31's could be had from the factory, but if you wanted bigger the easiest is either Bushwacker cutouts, or what I did and go full fiberglass..

Doesn't the 4x4 total chaos kit fit the 2 wheel drive truck?

I thought it did but now I'm not sure

Is the Toyota pickup the best platform I can get for $2k-2500?

I mean like the best vehicle or are there cheaper vehicles that'll be more reliable and easier/cheaper to fix.

OG ford rangers have a huge aftermarket for long travel and are cheap.

    OME and worth every penny.
find an RE that the cam chain guides have been done on or you'll be looking for a new front cover when you have to do them.

I don't know if much is as, or more reliable than the 22re, but the ford 2.8 and the 2.9 v6's I have seen go well past 300k, I have exploded the rear ends of the ford with the 8.8 running 33's and 4:56 gears so there are some limitations.

but yes they are cheap around NC 1-2k

I'm looking for something that I can drive im not sure which year Ford ranger yall are talking about but I think I'm sold on the Toyota pickup

It seems like the best value for the cash, and if anything breaks, it'll be under a grand to fix it. True?

If you are looking for reliable and easy to fix this is not it.. that front suspension is a total one off.. they ripped the entire original suspension out of the truck and I am not sure by the pictures how well the work was done. so if anything breaks it is not an off the shelf replacement you will have to buddy up with a welder and fab shop.

When a total chaos is installed is the mounting for the old one cut off?

What I'm wondering is if regular suspension can be reinstalled if there so happened to be a snapped a arm or something or does it need to be welded back on?

I'd really like to go long travel, but larger tires alone might have to suffice

Nothing OEM or bolt on will go back on this truck, all the OEM tabs and mounts are gone, so welding is the only option, and once again I don't think anyone sells a bolt on kit for these models.

you keep referring to Total chaos they to my knowledge only have kits for the Tacoma and first year for Tacoma's was 1995.5 so pre Tacoma you will have to look at other mfgr's.
