Darn...I bought my 2020 TRD OR without the upgraded headlights. I guess I need to strap an LED flashlight to the dash to help me see at night. I didn't realize how "marginal" the standard headlights are (according to the article posted by OP). I guess I'll need to stop driving after dark. I will admit the new upgrade headlights look great but the package that included them was just not worth the $$$ to me.

The standard headlights as they come from the factory were pretty terrible. Nothing was was bad as my wife's rogue though.

This just in: Toyota breaks their mold and makes headlights that actually fucking work. Maybe now that they've won an award for their new headlights, they can recall all the dim af 16-19 halogen projector housings...

We shouldn't have to have threads debating whether it's better to retrofit HIDs or LEDs into brand new headlights...

I though projector housings were better than reflectors? I didn’t get the LED package but installed LEDs in my projectors and they are great. I guess I’m missing something.

In fairness I haven't seen the reflector housings on the 3rd gens, but I don't imagine the projectors can be much better. There's a lot of reading on here talking about LEDs in projector housings and the benefits and drawbacks vs HID bulbs and such.

Were yours plug n’ play or did you have to use an adapter?

Plug-n-play that I purchased. Go under the “lighting” section for the thread on how to order one.

Where did you get the headlights themselves, and how much did you pay for them?

Yep, the new LED headlights are amazing. They are one of the best updates and very well worth the upgrade price.

I have crappy eyesight now and I think stock halogens are more than adequate to see at night. I just rented a Corolla with LEDs and while better than halogens, it wasn't that much better. But then again, I have crappy eyesight.

I’m not sure about Corolla headlights but these new LEDs in the Tacoma are so much better. Any one getting a 2020 will 100% regret not getting them.

I agree. Anyone purchasing a 2020 Tacoma needs to make sure the Tacoma they are considering has the $485 LED option on the window sticker.

Anyone who doubts the new headlights should do what I did. Have a dealership pull two trucks side by side and compare. Looks aside (I think the LEDs look FAR better than the halogens but some of that is preference), the LEDs blow the halogen lights out of the water. Better spread, more even and much better throw long range. Obviously don’t buy a package you don’t want just to get the lights but with the right combo, the lights should only cost 400 more. It’s literally crazy not to get them.

$485 and the fact that's its standalone and not bundled with a 'safety' package forcing you to spend thousands?? It was a no brainer for me. That's not a lot of money for full LED heads and fogs.
