Hi all! First time here. My new to me Tacoma got rear ended hard on the interstate. I’m concerned there is frame damage. What you can’t see in the pic is that the bed got pushed into the cab at an angle. The initial visual quote is just to replace the bed, but I’m concerned about frame damage. The initial quote to replace the bed and fix the cosmetic issues was $6680. I don’t feel well equipped to make sure they fix it correctly. I feel like it should be totaled...but if they total it, I won’t find that out until next week. What are my options? Give me your opinions, internet folks. Thank you in advance!

Go to another body shop you’re under no obligation to use them.

This. Body shops argue with insurance adjusters all the time.

Don’t forget to file a diminished value claim with the insurer before you cash any checks.

I was on the interstate during a rainy rush hour. The car in front of me brakes, so I braked a bit aggressively and came to a stop. The lifted Jeep behind me did not stop, tried to slam on brakes and swerved last second but hit me going pretty hard. I kept on the brakes for fear of getting pushed into the car ahead of me, so it was a pretty hard hit.

Super bummed because I love this truck and just got it.

The body shop that has it is top rated but they’re saying they have to take it apart to fully judge the damage. According to them, they’ll give me another quote on Monday. I’m just worried they’ll want to fix the frame and not total it. Or that they will say the frame is fine. I just am worried they won’t fix it well enough and I got this truck because of the safety ratings and features.

Welcome to TW. I would get quotes from different body shops if you aren't comfortable with this one. You have a choice on who fixes it.

Also, great choice in colors. Magnetic Grey is the best.

Great to hear no bodily injury. I like the fact that your shop wants to disassemble parts to better assess the damage.

it's not on the body shop to claim it totaled, that's on your insurance and is based on repair cost vs resale value of the truck. don't know the exact figures determined to total it but i've heard ballpark of 75% from my buddy who works in insurance claims.

just wait and see if there's frame damage. file for diminished value if truck isn't totaled. calm yourself and be lucky no one was injured. welcome to the forum.

Sounds like the truck did its job if you are ok. The quote is probably going to change once they get it apart and take a good look at it.

Haha. Thank you! Working on calming down.
I’m pretty sure he had some front end damage but not like mine. He had a heavy duty brush guard that helped. His airbags deployed but I didn’t look too much at his. It was nasty weather so I stayed in my truck mostly.

Take the nickel tour of the body shop...is it clean, is it organized does the office look like a horde pile? Look at the repaired vehicles on site. If they don’t take pride in their shop they sure as hell won’t take pride in their work.

NO frame damage there, you need a bed, tailgate, bedside and maybe some cab work.

The jeep didnt hit your bumper from the looks of it (the plastic on the sides of the bumper doesnt count)
