okay, 2001 Tacoma 3rz. I’ve been tracking this problem down for awhile now. Engine bucks while accelerating
2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. Sometimes it’s rough sometimes it isn’t. If I drive the truck at non running temp it has no hesitation what’s so ever, until it reaches running temp. Parts I have changed. Spark plugs, coil packs, coolant temp sensor, injector cleaner, then a fuel filter, a new stock fuel pump, then new injectors, and it still hesitates just as bad as before. There is no check engine light. I have no clue what’s going on, I’m beginning to think my ecu may be bad. Any help would be great thanks in advance

was it the clutch slipping or a fuel problem?

Clutch is definitely not slipping, no fuel problem I went through the whole system, no vacuum leaks, I just change the throttle position sensor, no luck still hesitating, I’m selling my truck I’m over it. Just made an add before I wrote this

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Do you know if your fuel pressure is good?

Have you done a compression test?

I have a brand new fuel system as of September 2019 I’ll write again, new parts I’ve installed. I’ve got new spark lugs, coil packs, injectors, fuel filter, fuel pump, coolant temp sensor, throttle position sensor, Ive properly checked my vacuum lines. I haven’t done a compression test. I drive this truck down I5 60 miles a day doing 70 to 80 and can hold steady without hesitating the entire drive. I have one other issue with the rig that might help you fellas solve this idk.. I find using my compression going down a hill (logging roads) for a 1/4 mile holding 2 grand coasting down hill using my compression, I engage my clutch into neutral to slow down for a hairpin corner coming and my truck dies like it just lost all source of fuel no sputters or hiccups just dies. I have had that happen before installing my new fuel pump etc. and after more than once

Also I’d like to note back to that coasting down a hill with compression. I have had the truck we’re i am coasting then go to give the truck gas again, and it’s sputtering and running like it’s got half the compression. Not the first time this has happened, so I Gun it like usual to what I think clears it out, and in a matter of seconds back to running good again. It’s safe to say my truck wasn’t built on a Wednesday

I've never heard term used like that. What do you mean by using my compression?

Using my gears to slow down like downshifting before a light or stop sign. Going down a hill with your foot off the break and off the gas pedal in 2nd gear and holding 20mph, then Ill push my clutch in to stop or turn a sharp corner. And the truck dies

    Engine braking, gear braking.

Do you have a Scanguage or Ultragauge, to see engine functions?

Ultragauge is cheap and can give you easy to understand real time data. Which will greatly lighten the abyss of the unknown.

Finally solved my issue and to re-word what I said before truck was chugging not hesitating. Turned out to be bank 1 o2 sensor that was NOT throwing a check Engine light. Sucks I threw a lot of parts into it. But at-least it has a full tune up

I just replaced both my 02 sensors today and my truck is has more power than it ever had. Mine didnt throw a code either. luckily I started with cleaning the maf then I bought the sensors. my truck was over fueling I got 7mpg's last tank and it was making my cats glow red hot

Wow! It’s hard to throw 200 at a o2 sensor knowing you can’t return and get your money back. I tried everything, the truck was throwing a code for a charcoal canister, while I’d be chugging down the road like the trucks running in 3 cyl not 4. Now I can rest my foot on the pedal while driving instead of putting it to the floor to keep from chugging
