Keeping up with the Joneses

My wife is not happy with my trolling of TW.

I've been surfing and liking TW for about the last 3 months and I've seen so many trucks and mods that I love. And now that I have a Tacoma I want to start doing some from the list I've started. The wife however thinks that since I just bought a new 2011 truck I don't need to spend any extra cash on it for some time. Am I alone here or is there some trick to starting the conversation about needing new headlights, avid light bars and total over haul of the sound system?


Even if I can't keep up with all the builds and mods I love seeing them so keep up the good work.

Better to just do it then ask for forgiveness rather than ask for permission...is what I say. But it also helps having your priorities in check (i.e., don't drop money on the Taco when you should be dropping it on diapers).

 

Well a good upgrade to a stereo you both would like. and show her some comparisons when you both go shopping. Say at Best buy go in and have her listen to the stereos with ya. My Gf of 5 yrs likes music as well and I did this same thing to show what a difference the sound was from a good system and the stock system. She was amazed. I got the new sytem and we were both happy. So hop ethis helps ya a little. A stock truck just isnt your own until ya change it a little.

Money is no good after you're dead. You OLO. (only live once). I speak from experience here, ie cancer battle. So now after just buying a 2007 in awesome shape, I am modding it the way I always wanted to mod a truck. Luckily I have an understanding wife! Who was also very supportive I may add.

 

hah.... my wife did the same thing when i first bought my tacoma. i would hear, "you just spent how much on that truck and now you want to do what to it !?" it took a year before we could agree on doing the lift and tires. part of what helped with that is we started to do some off roading and she agreed that the lift and tires would help improve performance

and getting her involved too helped. when i was looking at rims, tires and other peoples builds, i would ask her opinion as to what she thougth about the looks of them. i think she liked being a part of the descision.

LOL My wife thought the same thing when I got my 2010 in Feb. "I don't know why you need new tires those don't have a thousand miles on them!" BLAH BLAH BLAH.

 

You might want to try some that are on my list - all practical and don't come with the truck rather then replacing a sound system that is brand new. She might see that as being more reasonable. Just my opinion.

I think a prone position, low crawling to your exit would be best after that conversation!

 

Let the truck be stock for awhile then work into it slowly that she may just go along with.

I'm lucky - the wife is as into cars & trucks as I am... She had me pimp out her Nissa Quest Mini Van!!!

 

As a happily married man of 14 years I couldn't agree more........I rode Harley Davidsons for many years and spent TONS of money on those. With three young kids, a home and all the responsibilities that go with them, there just isn't the kind of disposeable cash as there once was. On that, my truck has become my hobby and along with surfing TW and hanging out online with all the cool people here, I get my ideas for mods, prioritize them and do them as cash allows. My wife knows that guys need a hobby or toy and when it is something that I use EVERY day and the whole Family can actually enjoy she is really cool about it. That isn't to say that I don't get the odd eye roll or dirty look when I tell her my next idea but I can handle that.

The bottom line is that we both realize that there are all kinds of really bad things for people to do with their free time and money........Surfing TW and saving your pennies for something cool for the truck is pretty clean and safe. Conversely, I'm cool with how she spends our dough too.

Enjoy the new truck and enjoy the fun of making it yours.

 

Well when it came to the Avid light bar that I'm putting on, I told my wife that $350 is cheap protection for a front bumper that'll cost $1500 to replace if I smack a tree or plow the front end. As for balls they hang from her rearview mirror. But hey if she doesn't like you trolling TW just tell her she should be thankful. Because the alternative is a whole lot of free porn.
