I’m a big fan of people not seeing in my truck. That’s why I have to heat shield sun shades for my side front windows. With my tint you can’t see in the back.

What do you think of seatbelt laws? Like I said, I always wear my seatbelt but I think it’s bullshit that cops can arbitrarily harass people for not wearing their seatbelts when they are not otherwise breaking the law!

 

Always practice your 2nd Amendment rights!

 

I wear them some times I don’t. Just depends honestly. If they really wanted to enforce seat belt laws they would tell insurance companies not to pay in case of a death in which a person wasn’t wearing one.

One thing that really pisses me off is when people follow the letter of the law instead of the law of common sense...

A perfect example would be locking the keys in the car; I’ve locked my keys in the truck so many times I’ve lost count. Before I kept a second key hidden, I’d always have to call AAA. Their policy is that they must check the license of vehicle owner, but not once was I ever asked for ID.

One time when I working at Puck (back in 2014 or 2015), one of the other barbacks locked the keys in the Puck van after running errands. Someone called AAA, and the guy they sent got van unlocked quickly.

First off, let me tell you that the Puck van is exactly what it sounds like! It is a large van with a custom “Puck” wrap! Specifically, it is a 1999 GMC Safari SLE. It was also parked outside Puck when my coworker locked the keys inside.

It was seriously one of those “If it quacks like a duck” situations. A van parked outside the bar whose name it is literally plastered with!

We were super busy that night, but the AAA guy would not leave until he saw an “authorized person’s” ID. The closest thing we had was the general manager. She had just transferred her license from Nebraska to Pennsylvania and had one of those 15-day temp licenses, which had expired days earlier. Surprisingly, the AAA guy accepted this as a form of ID and went on his way.

 

Exactly! It’s revenue generation! And then when poor people can’t afford stupid arbitrary nonmoving violations, they either lose their license or get a warrant issued for their arrest!

 

For starters, the dealer replaced the brake drums without my permission. I honestly never though the actual drums ever had to be replaced unless they got damaged.

To add insult to injury, the drums the dealer installed are made out of uncoated stainless steel or something. The original drums were black, and treated so they would not rust! These ones are less than a month old and they’ve already started to rust!

I am strongly considering doing a rear disc brake conversion!

 

I wouldnt bother, i cant really see that there would be much to gain on your truck. Maybe look into more aggressive pad materials and stainless braided lines instead.

 

Wouldn’t waste my funds on that. Your drums have been fine for 10 years

I hate my drum brakes because they are enclosed and I can’t see what’s going on with them...

I previously looked at rear disc conversion kits and I seem to remember that they were over two grand.

I have learned a hard lesson about getting work done at the stealership. They overcharged me to get a blown left rear axle seal replaced, and their tech botched the job so they had to replaced it a second time for free. Now, my truck is squeaking again and I’m bringing it to the dealer tomorrow to more than likely get it repaired for free AGAIN. Once this issue is fixed, I am done with the dealer!

That said, it has always annoyed me that inferior 2005-present Nissan Frontiers have had 4-wheel disc from the beginning, but even the 3rd Gen Tacos have rear drum!

I have trusted friend who’s a former Volvo mechanic and now owns his own shop (His daily driver is a Tacoma so he knows a thing or two about them); He now does all the work on my truck that I can’t do. If I bought the parts, he would charge me next to nothing for labor. How much am I really looking at to do a rear disc brake conversion?!?!

 

If vehicles could talk, your T4R would probably be saying “Take me back to Hawaii!”

 

How much for stainless braided lines and more aggressive pads?

 

I would not be doing this for performance. I hate having rear brakes that are impossible to inspect without jacking up the truck, removing the tires, and taking covers off.

 

not worth it especially on a lil 5 lug, with tires being so small on the 5 lugger the a rear disk setup would be absolutely pointless from a stopping power perspective as the drums are the same size as a 6 lugger afaik and on the 6 lugger the rears will lock up quicker than the front. A properly setup rear drum will give 200,000 miles of literally no issues and no maintenance needed.

 

It's not just a matter of slapping some discs and calipers on the back. You're looking at the MC and proportioning issues as well.

 

The issue right now is that my rear axle seal keeps blowing (luckily the dealer is standing by its work and fixing it for free)...
