I have seen the pro's for it, but curious on what some of the issues or "cons" that people have run into with them.

Thinking about getting one, but I do a lot of highway driving, as well as live north of Chicago, so it would occasionally see a heavy snow load.

    Thanks everyone!

Pros outweigh the cons for me, but here are a few cons of the SoftTopper:

    Not lockable
Not 100% water tight(but I have not had issues with wet gear)
Not 100% dust proof(I hear hard shells have the same problem?)
    Cant support overhead weight
No windows in the sides can create bad blindspots
Not recommended to go through car washes
Needs more upkeep to keep the material shiny and clean looking
Can develop a tear/rip if things get too wild(It would be pretty tough to do)
Clear vinyl at front and back is easily cloudy/dirty/scratched compared to glass
No insulation if you need it for camping/dogs/etc.

I would still recoemmed one as it is the perfect balance between a roll-up tonneau cover and hard shell topper.

I think the only one that stands out for me is the Not Recommended for car washes. Summer time, I wash by hand - but winter time, I go through a carwash weekly to try and keep the salt at a minimum. What are some issues with the carwash? Probably better to go through a touchless one, rather than a touch - and maybe the high winds from drying can potentially loosen or rip the canvas?

This is timely. 4/5 times in the last month I've transported things with my hard tonneau strapped partially open because of a load. Really come to like a weatherless bed, but this is a pain. Started considering the SoftTopper, and I'm also a cold weather resident.

As to the car wash issue, supposedly the thing pops right off. I suppose you could just remove it for the carwash days and throw it back on when you get home? I admit I've gotten lazy and really like running the truck through one pretty often. Another perk of the hard tonneau. Never thought I'd be a fan when I bought the truck with one.

I don’t have one but iv been doing a ton of research on the softopper and the Bestop supertop2

In the instructions for a softopper, They say you shouldn’t install the top in anything under 72 degrees. The material stretches and contracts With the temperature and apparently contracts too much in the winter to make instillation easy
Iv also read that the back windows are getting cracked and even split when rolled up during the cold

I went ahead and bought it. Installed it myself. Took about 2 hours total. But I am kind of slow. Made sure I was doing everything they said in the instructions. I still need a to tighten things up, but I am going to wait until warmer weather. I may also just super-heat my garage with a massive propane heater I have. Get it in the 90's or 100's in there. Then do some adjusting. But I love it, and I LOVE the versatility of it.
