I don’t think that this was a random event.

Perhaps you need to 1. Tell the misses to lock her car, 2. Tell her to not leave valuables in said car, and 3 buy your own security cameras so you can actually see what happened.

OP I believe this was planned, unless the thieves saw a light on in the car for an ajar door. As for the car, I cannot make it out.

Car looks like a white Mercedes or Lexus style 4 door sedan. As for the plate. Not a chance in hell of getting a clear shot of it.

Maybe Lexus IS250/350. Like said above, that really didn't look random. What was stolen? That may give you an idea on who it was.

Even if you caught the person there is nothing you can do (legally). That vid isnt enough to generate a probable cause, let alone a conviction, in my opinion. Its infuriating, but thank goodness they didnt nab a cell phone or worse.

Second best theft prevention method, Ive found, is locking your car. Best method is keeping it in the garage at night.

My last truck got stolen and burned to the ground but they never caught the thieves nor did I get anything out of it. Sadly, if u don't catch shit and handle it urself nothing will likely happen. Take shit into ur own hands if u want, but as above this video will not be enough for anything to conspire legally

yeah that footage is crappy. No amount of work on it could ever ever ever get anywhere close to figuring out the plates. You can't clear up what isn't there.

Lecture the wife on locking up her belongings and making sure she takes all visible belongings out of the vehicle. Trust me, I know it is a constant battle and soon she'll be upset at you because she "gets" it that it's all her fault and she's a terrible person.

Be mindful of how you present the fact that she needs to be more careful. I constantly have to remind my wife not to leave her work backpack visible in the backseat with her laptop. She states she understands, we've seen broken glass on the street from people breaking into cars but she still does it occasionally.

Also may be a good time to invest in a camera security system for your own place! That way you get notifications about what's going on instead of relying on neighbors. Just keep in mind that cameras are only one layer of security. The primary goal in preventing yourself from being a victim is to not make yourself a target: lock cars, pull cars into driveway, have motion sensor light on driveway or just a light, cameras, and most importantly...keep stuff out of sight or out of the vehicle and make sure the doors are locked.

That's definitely the best choice, try and hide the camera. If these people are local and that was planned they might still be around or try it again. Catch em and bag em, good luck have fun

Have you tried saying "Enhance" repeatedly until you can read their plate?
