I’ve never had a feeling of not having enough power in my Taco, but yes it’s geared to save fuel. So I rented a 2019 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.0 turbo for a cross country trip. I hate racking up insane miles on my new truck for just highway trips. My 2.0 Turbo experience so far after 1400+ miles from TN to AZ on i40. Cruise control can’t hold speed at all. A hill will have me lose up to 8mph or even more. Running across TX and NM I had my foot to the floor for most of those miles to hold 78mph or so. It hates to downshift for any power and when it does there’s still crap for power. I feel like a go cart could pass me at any moment. Light load of 2 people and 2 hard shell suitcases in the Jeep. No warning lights and the turbo is working just fine. I think all the YouTube reviews and car mag reviews of this motor are all bias bullshit. The 2.0 turbo is complete shit and puts down power that is absolutely lacking in every way. End rant ......... Be informed and be glad your Taco “does” actually put down some get up and go when needed.

My cousin’s husband has a 2016 Cherokee with the 3.6L and he loves it. The 4-banger Jeeps are junk in more ways than one. My dad rented one in Arizona and hated it.

These tiny turbocharged 4-bangers are all junk!

I drove my uncle’s 2017 AC TRD Sport 2WD and that thing has some serious grunt in my opinion!

Excellent feedback. A couple of questions if you don't mind:

    1. Did you notice if the climate control system dried you eyeballs out? Your nasal passages?

    2. Did you bang your shins on any part of the car? If so, can you post pics and let your brothers at TW know how you addressed your wounds?

    3. What size tires are on the Cherokee? How big can you go without rubbing?

    4. Did the car try to kill you? If so how?

    5. How is the windshield wiper coverage? Were the wipers squeaky?

    6. Did you talk to any of the techs who serve the car at the rental place? If so, did they tell you that they often drained the tranny when doing an oil change? Did they whine and mewl and squawk about how hard the filter was to remove?

    Thanks in advance,

    Skippy.

We're in the age of small, high strung FI engines. They boast good peak numbers but have flaccid power bands. Car mags will praise them because it's cheaper to cut them a check for a bullshit article than it is to produce bigger engines.

I agree. I love the use of the word flaccid - reminds me of a lot of people around here.

One question if you don't mind:

    1. What type of gravy with them grits?

    Gracias,

    Skippy

I like this thread because it has "mewl" and "flaccid."

It's a serious question....I'm a grits fan but am trying out new condiments with said grits.

I've been doing a red-eye gravy with ham drippings and coffee, but am thinking of going a different route......

I like my Tacoma, but I would put the 2.7L v6 ecoboost from my F150 in it, any day, all day. It’s an impressive power plant.

They should just boost the 3.6 and get rid of the silly milkjug of a 4 banger.

I test drove one and it was doing some weird surging at full throttle. It was quick, though - no doubt.

It's a slug for sure but between two vehicles I put 450k worry free miles on those engines before I sold them, still running like a top.

ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. I have a 2.0 JL and it’s great. Much quicker than the Tacoma. No problems whatsoever, but I am very thankful for my Tacoma.....I like it too.

No bro. F150 is dialed. The engine and transmission are smooth like butter, and you can tear the tires off if you stomp on it. Toyota could learn a lot from Ford. There is a reason the F150 is so popular. It’s a refined product that doesn’t disappoint. My fully laden F150 service truck gets the same gas mileage as my empty Tacoma too.

I test drove a 2.7L EcoBoost F150 at the Lehigh Valley Auto Show a few years ago and that thing was a rocket ship!

Even my 2.5i Impreza wagon performs better than these things with it's 170hp and 4spd automatic. Nothing high tech about it yet it still manages 33 miles per gallon on long trips. Something to be said about being light weight.

I had a non-Turbo 4 banger Jeep as a rental and it was a gutless pile of shit. My wife has a Volvo XC90 with the T6 (Twincharged, Super+Turbo) and it makes over 330hp (Polestar tuned) and screams. It is night and day quicker than my Tacoma. The published 0-60 is something like 5.9. Damned quick for a car that size. All forced induction 4 bangers are definitely *not* created equally.
