Game camera would give you still images which could help. Unless you get 5,000 images a day from the traffic you mentioned.

Ok now I want to know who is pooping in OP's yard. Goodluck and keep us posted!

If you dont want to shoot the critter, put out a cage-trap for it. Then carry it a few counties away, and set if free:argue:

I’m going through a similar issue with my neighbor’s cats. The cats are mostly outdoors now and use my yard as their toilet. Long story short, my problem is still ongoing, but I wanted to mention that most new security cameras (including the cheap Chinese ones) give you the ability to define a small rectangular area on the screen to focus the motion capture on. So it only looks at that small area for motion detection and records that. Maybe that could help narrow down the footage.

If you do catch the owner, see if your town has a bylaw including a fine for dog feces that are not cleaned up. Mine has a $50 per incident penalty. Unfortunately the law doesn’t cover cats. My next plan is to leave meat carcasses around my yard to attract coyotes. Once the coyotes see the roaming cats...

Take a couple days off work and sit in front yard in a lawn chair with a cooler of beer, a loaded AR15 and a video camera.

    Presto no more dog shit.

Game camera. Set it up for pictures. Most of the better ones give you an option of a picture burst, short video when motion is detected or a combination of the two. You don't need the fancy ($$) ones with GPS and text alerts, just go cheap unless you can justify $$. When you set it up, don't set it with your street in the background unless you want pictures of every car, person, animal passing by. Set it up towards your house if at all possible. When you see that the perp has visited, grab the SD card out of the camera, plug it into your computer, set the thumbnail images to large, start at the newest file and work your way backwards.

This worked for us. We were convinced that a dog was somehow getting into our backyard and leaving massive dumps, bordering on human size. Wound up getting a game camera and set it up only to find that it was an opossum. You would have to try hard to dissuade me that they have the largest crap to body size ratio out of any animal after seeing what that camera caught.

I had this. I set up a game camera and finally caught them.

I confronted the owner and they were apologetic and said sorry it won’t happen again. It still happens, they don’t care and not much you can do about it.

This thread delivers, man. Please keep updating, I need to know how this ends. Some kind of Go Pro footage of the final confrontation would be great.

I'm still convinced it's a dog, and also in CA we can't shoot anything unfortunately.

How big are these cat turds? Just curious. My camera is the Yi home, and it has pretty good quality, but not the pinpoint ability or the ability to fast forward, only to skip.

I still think your dealing with a Coyote maybe a Coyote Dog mix.

They get into a pattern of travel hunting for food .

If this is a Dog being walked put out some food but make them work at it a Dog on a leash will not be allowed . to eat strange food

Another idea post a sign 24 hour video surveillance this will discourage most Dog walkers if you have not done so.

Just be glad it is not Cows

Nice. Thanks for the detailed response. Most likely will be ordering one tonight. My other concern with the game camera, is that it may/will catch the actual shit offender, but in case it's a dog, I won't be able to catch the owner. Are the trail cams programmable for distance? I have tree in the yard I could attach it to to, aimed at the ground since the poop always appears somewhere around the tree.

The little "no pooping" sign is next, but first I need to catch this pooper. I did see a Coyote just casually cruising down the street the other day, but have never seen one near my house.

I've heard that raccoon, fox, coyote, dog, cat, and hobo shit all taste different. If someone can describe the taste then maybe we could help narrow down what's dropping the deuces. :D
