    I just picked up a used XR from a guy who had used the Yakima overhaul uprights. It slightly damaged the rails where it was mounted due to over tightening.

    I think it is more a design flaw of the Yakima base. It should evenly sandwich the XR rail from the inside and out to prevent this from happening.

    Well I’m getting mine tommorrow. I’m going to cut a metal plate. Between the foot and the rail. Something for the feet to hold on too. I’ll post up pics

    I think making a washer system to sandwich the rails is the best way to protect the retrax. The other is to use a torque wrench to torque the bolts down between 6 and 10 Nm. The yakima tonneau cover kit says 10 Nm but the feedback we got from yakima is that 6 Nm should work. Ultimately I think Yakima will upgrade the tonneau kit hardware since overtorquing the bolts seems to be a common way to damage an expensive tonneau cover.

    True. But tha stupid bolt that Yakima used makes it had to use a washer

    6Nm will do it. I over torqued the bolts and contacted Retrax, and they sent me replacement side rails back in October free of charge; they didn’t even ask for photos/ proof. The cover itself shouldn’t get damaged. Mine has been working fine as intended.

    What are the crossbar options available for use with this cover? I was thinking of picking one up (the retrax cover), but is it only the Yakima bars that work with it?

    See attached.

    You’re better off using the T-Slots to mount the rack onto. Otherwise the crossbar spread is basically fixed limiting bike, boat, tent etc. options. Plus you want the seal between the bed rail and cover flush as intended for optimal dryness inside. Maybe could also affect any warranty claims related to moisture issues.

    But like I said earlier about the good folks at Retrax, they’ll work with you if issues pop up and are quick getting replacements to you.

    There have Been posters that have run bed bars with the Mx pro. With minimal to no water intrusion. I have the xr pro with tracks, I like but it’s very pricey for the set up I have I Also don’t like the seal and how High it sits. the Mx seems to sit lower. Xr also is priced about 150 higher. The roll top fits what I need. I bought mine on there 15% off sale. They happen about every couple of months. Good luck

    Retrax is a great brand- really versatile. I just got done with a Front Runner build on a new Raptor. Really like the easy install.

    @AlyssaFRO I like that set up. But a tad low for me. I have everything for that. But ended going with the over haul. I’m going cut it down so the rack is level with the roof or a inch lower

    @awynne56

    That would be the tallest application for the Retrax cover. Keeping a lower center of gravity helps keep the weight rating up. But it is difficult when you have longer things like boats or kayaks to haul. The Yakima option is a good resolution for things like that.

    Just got my Retrax Pro XR put on yesterday and topped it off with an UpTop Overland Truss (mid height). Love the Truss rack so far but think I would prefer the old style armor panels—they look like they would be more secure than the current version.
