This is the encouragement I needed! What’s your trucks setup, tire size and added weight wise?

On 255/85/16s right now and it drives better than stock. I have skids sliders and a front bumper which probably all weighs about 300 pounds. My mpg on the highway went up a bunch like I’m back to 21mpg From 16.5 and that’s driving around in 4x4. City mpg has stayed roughly the same but that’s also in 4x4. Cruising right at 2100rpms at 60. It’s awesome.

I love how it goes up hills in sixth it will downshift to 5th every once and a while going up big hills but it will find 6th again. I’m sure if I gearlocked it into 6th it would cruise right up but the best thing is I don’t have to think about it anyway! The torque in the low end band of the rpm is so much better. I’ll give it a little throttle when it’s cruising at 2k and it will actually start pulling!

    Nice trailer build.
I use 8000 pound drop leg jacks to level mine. They weigh about half as much as the farm jacks and have 30 inches of drop. Depending on how you weld them on you can get another 15 inches of height too.

Hello 5.29 folks. I'm looking for some advice/experience on this gearset. I'm looking to regear next year, probably through ECGS assembled 3rds. My truck is very mild compared to most on TW. No extra armor, just a hidden winch, 1/2" front lift, rear airbags, OVTune and 265/75r16 load range C tires. We get right up to, or possibly a little over, GVWR when we go camping. In the future, we may move to a small trailer, about 1200lbs, which would remove a few hundred pounds from the bed after removing the RTT and a few other things. I'm probably going to stay with 32's as the pro/con assessment doesn't make bigger tires attractive for my use.

4.88's are a given, but are 5.29's going to be too much gear for 32's? I realize it is only about a 150 rpm difference, but would like to hear from anyone with 5.29's and 32's, especially if you carry some weight over the highway. I never felt my truck was so underpowered, undergeared, confused and overwhelmed as when we were going across Vermont highways with the full camping load.

AT. Sounds like you are well into 5.29 territory but I suppose some of it comes down to how much UNLOADED driving you will do.

Getting close to finishing the break in period.
Loving the way this has changed the truck.
I decided to pair it with a 33gal Long Range America tank.

    Yeah come on.

Just pulled the trigger on 5.29 Front and Rear from ECGS. I'm running an SR5 so I've got the 8" Rear end. On the rear I opted for a Harrop E Locker, and Solid Spacer. Added the bushing on the front clam with no locker. Super pumped to join the 5.29 on 33's club.

They (Nitro) are really priced pretty close - sure someone gets a huge score but for the most part the full set is $1100-$1250. Installing yourself or shop doing the work? If shop, unless they are nuts the price they pass to you won't be crazy high (I should hope!).

Nothing wrong with 4.88 really. Sure some folks really need the 5.29 for huge loads and towing for most 4.88 is GREAT.

Maybe he should get advice from someone with an automatic, or at least someone who is regeared.

True enough. Just my .02$. I go by RPM charts and obviously more to it than that.

On Friday you can only say the first part.

Call ECGS back and tell them to throw at the least a mechanical locker in that clamshell... Trust me, you won't regret it! Buy once, cry once
