If you really want it fast, get a fully forged motor and drop huge turbos in it and get some air moving thru it. put it in 4wheel high and you might stand a chance.

Has anyone had any experience with the hand held open flash tuner yet? I received mine yesterday, tried reading my ECU kept giving an error “OFTCODE: 10003”. I looked on open flash tablet website and said my ECU may be locked. Does Toyota lock the ECUs on the newer Tacoma’s? And if so how do i go about getting it unlocked so i can read my factory tune and then write one of the hopefully preprogrammed tunes from OV already on the tablet? Also curious since i lifted my truck 6” lift and 33” tires and 5.29 nitro gears, would a prewritten tune from OV be adequate or would i need them to write a specific tune for my setup?
    Thanks for your help!

    Is your truck a 2018/19?
It's not locked, there is a small issue that OFT is working on updating asap for the 18/19s that get this error.
Handhelds are working fine right now on 16-17s

Expecting full working support on 18+ next week through a simple software update.

I have a 2018. One other question then to do with them having an issue with the tablets. I did download the program from OV and it says “the device connected is not a user” so i can not get updates on the tablet. Is there a program i need to also download from open flash tablet onto my computer as well for the tablet to work with the OV program?

Did you get our email we sent to all OFT customers "regarding your handheld order" ? We sent out another reply with links to download the correct software from OFTs site.

I am sorry about the confusion on this. I can resend it to you directly just need some basic info (name or order number or something you can pm me)

What’s the word on that update for the open flash tablet with 2018/2019 taco’s? 3 weeks since i originally inquired about this issue. Checked for updates on the flash manager today and said there were some so updated the flash tablet. Tried reading my ECU again and still getting the same error as before. Would be nice to get the ol girl tuned up so i don’t have a $600 paper weight lying around.

Yep, here we are a month later and still no update. Still getting OFTCODE:10003 not reading ECU. It sure would be nice to be able to tune my truck before my trip to Colorado in a few weeks but not sure that’s gonna be an option with how it’s already been almost 2 months with no resolution for this issue. I know these things can take some time with coding and such but i figured they would have this problem figured out by now for the 18/19 taco’s.

I’m new to the Tacoma world; I just bought a 2020 Tacoma Trd sport cement and I’ve notice this issue. Coming from a mustang, even being the v6, I can tell the difference and that this is a problem with the newer Tacoma’s. I still love the truck but wish Toyota would have done the right thing.
Basically, is it this OVTune worth doing and it is it compatible with the 2020s yet? And is the only other way to fix this issue is to spend the money on re gearing the truck?

Are you able to allow the tranny to shift into 5th and 6th when in 4lo? Currently it is limited to 4th gear

I haven’t had to use 4lo yet. Isn’t 4lo for slower speeds anyways? So not sure how you’d get going fast enough for it to even need 5th or 6th.

Cause it sucks switching between 4lo and 4hi every couple mins when you're moving between obstacles on the trail.
