TRD emblems, tinted windows, OEM running boards, AVS vent shades, RMAS upgrade, LED lights in front and rear, interior LED lighting upgrade, LED lighting in bed, touch control dash mount for LED lighting, auxillary 12v and USB jacks in bed, replace all speakers with Infinity, custom mod with Bose tweeters, TRD Pro illumination mod...
Toyota put those shitty speakers in the Camry too.
Discovered this when my daughter asked about replacement shortly after she bought a 2016 Camry.
I discovered after this inquiry that "the apple did not fall far from a tree". I immediately replaces all the speakers with 2-way Infinitys and an Alpine amp paired with an Infinity 10" sub. Then I got back to upgrading my Tacoma with the same high quality Infinity speakers. Very happy with the upgrade.

Yes, it's amazing how adequate such a flimsy speaker can sound.

Almost a year and a half now, what do you think of the set up?

I plan on doing this same upgrade except using 6 3/4 components in the front and 3 ways in the back. Came across your post looking for confirmation after researching what I wanted. No plans to use an amp but can always add one if I feel they need more power.

It’s hard to pass up, considering the 40 watt RMS and 92dB sensitivity.

I would make sure to mention to disconnect your battery first! Also note that the airbag is right there on that side piece so be cautious handling it and replacing the panel properly.

Edit - Just saw your reply couple notes up. But still I would still say better safe than sorry. Not worth the risk

Very happy with them still, they sound great paired with the factory stereo. I added the amp solely for the sub and that combo does everything I need.

I still cannot believe how light the factory speakers were and the sounds they were able to produce, the magnets were like the size of a quarter, lol.

The other funny thing, that I can’t quite explain, is nothing ferrous really sticks to the magnets on the stock speakers. It is like they are not magnets at all (though science tells me they must be magnets, with only two wires to each speaker). I noticed this when I took them out. Everything in my workshop was sticking to the Kickers, but the OEM did not pick up nails or paperclips. Whatever magnetic field is in there, is somehow contained, or cancelled out within the structure.

Sorry if this has been covered in this thread or maybe some one can chime in. I just replaced my whole system, new Sony headunit, kicker speakers all around, and the kicker Subaru tweeters. I’m getting a really harsh static, almost a slap out of what seems like the tweeters at pretty mild volume.

I’ve tried a few of the eq’s preloaded on the Sony but most seem to still cause it or if they don’t they total dull all sound. Am I doing something wrong or did I get a lemon pair of tweeters? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

This may sound painfully obvious but for the longest time I could not figure out why I was getting static and popping form my speakers. I tried everything. Eventually I had to go back to the head unit and start everything over again. Turns out it just wasn't plugged in all the way and when I was pulling the wires to make them tight I accidentally loosened it from the head unit.

Neodymium, just like these $500 Alpine speakers.

The magnet is inside of the voice coil, rather than surrounding it.

I'm old school, I prefer a fist sized magnet.

I did this and agree. Not sure this mod is an improvement in all scenarios, or just extra/excess sizzle. I’m likely going to put the Toyota dash speakers back in because they were a better match for the upgraded door speakers I have already installed.

    My advice:

Do the Subaru’s with the stock Toyota door speakers or as part of a component system that does not have other tweeters.

My mistake is I retrofitted coaxials into the doors already, and these dash tweeters are just too much when paired with already clearer and more treble-rich doors. Live and learn.

Did the tweeter upgrade. Very nice. I’m planning to leave the door speakers stock as this upgrade is significant.

Has anyone tried to upgrade their JBL tweeters that come on the tech package? I recieved Subi Tweeters for TWSS but I realized they would not work after I tore everything apart lol. They arent as bad as the paper ones but the Kicker Tweeters look way better still. Can I re wire them or will it screw something up from different input/ouput watts or something? I have tech package but I am not totally happy with the sound. I listen to a lot of heavy metal so I think mine are almost blown anyways haha

I put coaxials (Kicker KS series) in the doors first and was gonna do the tweeters, but I had bought a version that was not a simple install like the Subaru tweeter. I am really enjoying the door Kickers, and at this point I'm satisfied enough I don't think I will do the tweeters.

People have installed the KS coaxials with the Subaru tweeter and say it sounds great and is not too trebly, but why mess with something that works.
