Maybe ask one of the 3 people that are making the seat risers to produce it?

I'm a photographer....so maybe I'm confusing copyright law with patent law...But I was under the impression that physical designs for items (Intellectual property) had similar laws to copyrights where as the act of creating and designing them was enough to establish your "ownership" of it and therefore could not be reproduced without modification.

I don't know. I'm not a lawyer, nor am I capable of producing more than one of these in my own garage. So, I'll let someone else figure all that out.

Nope, you'd have to physically file for the patient. If not. The idea and design is up for grabs

Interesting. The physical word is different than the creative world.

    Laws make no sense.

If I remember correctly the original maker had his cad files or some sort of technical drawings on here. I can't find the thread though. Granted I don't think you'd need the drawings to copy them, just go take measurements in the truck. I plan on making some soon. If they turn out okay I wouldn't mind sharing but we'll see.

X2, I deal with this frequently as part of my job. We find ways to work around patents all the time when we’re trying to compete with existing products that are patented. Unless there is a patent filed, anyone is free to reproduce the product. And once the design is publicly disclosed (as in posting pictures of it on a website and showing how it works in such a manner that a reasonably skilled person can replicate it), it can no longer be patented. I’m not placing any judgement on whether all of that is right or wrong, just saying that’s the law.

In reality, these types of products (fairly inexpensive, niche consumer target audience) can be tough to justify a patent for. You’re going to spend $8-15k for a utility patent, so do the math on how many of these you’d have to sell at even 50% margins just to pay for the patent cost. It’s one unfortunate aspect of the product design and IP process... what always happens when lawyers are involved...

yes, I have done the mods
the original designer of these, @Lostsheep, was just on TW in the original build thread for these mounts a few days ago posting about them.

He gave me the 3D model he used to CNC them so I could make an accessory mic hanger to go along with these mounts - but since he's still around TW everyone who wants some should probably go to him.

Ironically the photograph of the product has intellectual rights but the actual product does not

I'd be interested in what this mic hanger looks like. And where you opted to place it.

Attempting my own since I love the concept of these and have just been putting off building them for a few weeks.
