Yes, with that much weight I'll definitely need to re-gear to 5.29s and upgrade the suspension. I actually wanted a manual, but the long bed is only available with the auto.

The shell is fine if that's what you want, but I want a fully featured camper with water, stove, fridge, heater, solar, battery, etc. that I can comfortably live in for extended periods.

Not the campsite, but had a fun run through Joshua tree over Thanksgiving

I have all those and live full time in my swift shell :)

Manual access cab is available in a sport!

Not trying to sway you away from what you want just giving you more options because decisions aren't hard enough already :D

    You're going to love it.

Personally, I have no interest in building out a camper. I'd rather purchase a well-equipped, cohesive, OEM designed/built camper that already has everything I want/need...to each his/her own I guess.

It's got to be a double cab for me. I need the space for people/gear.

Good lord! I know I'm gonna be over weight, but damn that would scare me lol. Considering the GVWR for the 3rd gen Tacoma is 5600 pounds, does your rig feel stable on the road, on trails? What have you done to the suspension?

It’s a mountain hatch tailgate insert. Pricey but I’m a fan.

Sometimes we go to places and in the back of your mind you say to yourself ,this my not be the wisest thing to do,,,,,and have that feeling deep in the pit your stomach that makes you pucker a little but you do it anyway. This is adventure .Like paddling class 4-5 whitewater ,looking at the rapid for 30 minutes looking at your lines ,then deciding to run it . There is a certain satisfaction on that comes after that's special .
When you take photo's in these places you never forget the feeling of being there .
Sometimes its not that roads are not difficult but what are the consequences if something goes wrong .
Sometimes it the sheer grandeur of the place ,or the remoteness that brings these feelings.
I cannot look at these next two photo without that feeling ,not that there was anything difficult about the road.

Yup. The remoteness of such places is sometimes more "technical" or challenging than the roads. I feel the same way about solo trips to NW Maine

I love that special feeling of camping in a truly remote area. My recent trip to the Mojave National Preserve was especially cool after we ate dinner and retired for the night. Before going to sleep you could actually see satellites crossing the clear night sky and all you would hear is the occasional howling from packs of coyotes in the distance.

Slick roads on Sat would be an understatement.. Eventually made it to a great campsite though!
