I'm assuming he is going to offer some sort of T-fitting that will install at the engine oil drain plug, allowing oil to be drained as it would in stock fashion and then oil returned from the turbo will drain into the side of that fitting and back up into the engine oil pan. This would require a heavy duty skid to make sure you don't knock off those fittings that are now sitting lower than the original drain plug would have.

Personally, I would just drill and tap the engine oil pan. It is not difficult to do.

Question, how are you able to flow oil back into the pan through the oil drain plug? The last time I turbocharged a car the one major requirement was that oil had to drain back into the pan ABOVE the oil level.

At the time this was because the oil return required gravity to flow. Keep in mind, this was on an old 90's Honda Civic. I believe this had to do with oil getting stuck in the turbo and oil leaking into the hot side causing oil to burn.

It'll drain as long as the turbo is above oil in the pan.

Just think of the turbo as that water tank on the top of the hill.

Damn, that's a pretty inefficient conveyance system. Look at that head loss.

As an adult, I don’t think I’ve been this excited about anything as much as the turbo kit. Which I admit is quite sad but I don’t care, Just don’t tell my wife..

@OVTune Will there be an option to run a recirc system instead of VTA. Would be nice to help with spool up when getting back into throttle.

So we aren't gonna talk about how terrible of an analogy this is?... Not really ideal to plumb it there unless there is something OV knows that I don't. I can see issues arising if the oil level is at higher levels in the pan, like being off-road and having the truck at different angles. Or maybe there is a scavenge pump on the drain pushing in back to the pan? Again, maybe there is something I don't know but I've never done a turbo drain setup to the bottom of the pan like that.

Also not to mention low hanging oil return lines that can get snagged offroad, or smashed under a skid plate.

Try this for a better diagram...

    oil_drain.gif

EDIT: I did an experiment on this years ago on an old BMW 3 series. Used a clear piece of tube to watch the oil level in the drain and tapped up high it stayed pretty low. While at a lower spot on the pan the oil level in the clear drain tube was nearly at the bottom of the turbo...

Just an idea but if y'all haven't tested it with a clear tube for a drain you might try that and see what it does at different angles/oil levels in the pan.
