First go back. Tell them exactly what the problem is. Make them record it. If they stonewall then a second dealer. If they don't remedy the problem get that recorded as well.

Then contact corporate. It's easy. Google foo

Ill try another dealer and call Toyota. I did make the service manager acknowledge the whining on my paperwork at my last visit so it was documented.

Taking it up with a dealer is a waste of time as there is no official fix from Toyota for the 2019 and 2020 models (pre 2019s had a TSB). Dealers can't fix an issue for which there is no solution... Opening a case with corporate is the correct approach.

That's why you don't take it to the dealer for this issue. All these people going to the dealer to pressure them to fix the noise are wasting their time, and risking more complications with their truck by having dealer techs futz around with the vehicle... take it for unnecessary drives, and perhaps even throw parts it which aren't going to make the noise go away.

Best approach is to call corporate and make your concerns heard so that hopefully Toyota will extend the TSB to the 2019s and 2020s.

Yes but no. Customers opening cases is good, dealers opening cases is even better. "hey Toyota, I've got 134 customers complaining about their rear diffs, what gives?" Etc lol

Not a waste of time. Dealer makes an official record. I agree though they shouldn't throw parts at the problem.

Are customer complaints at dealers higher priority than customers directly calling corporate?

I don't know the answer to that.

Point is Toyota getting it from BOTH is more likely to do something. Publicity helps too.

What if I record the sound of the howl and play it in the background with the Toyota corporate rep when I call them? lol

My complaint with the dealer didn't go anywhere. I wasn't getting any answers from the dealership at all. A couple calls to corporate got the dealership on the phone right away. Too bad the calls to corporate ended up being useless as well.

Starting with 2019 the fix was applied on the factory floor. Unfortunately, it doesn’t actually fix it, as i can attest

Mine doesn't appear to be altered by temperature. However, mine can be overpowered by wind noise if it is warm enough. Unfortunately windows down lets in the fuel pump noise.

Yeah I don't know about that... mine doesn't appear to have the dynamic dampers, which are part of the TSB.

Did they put the padding behind the rear seats? I haven’t looked back there. Also looking at the original TSB I have nothing that represents the dynamic dampener piece that was added to the 2016-2017 but maybe they changed the design? If there isn’t any padding, I’m considering dynamating or something.

Also does anyone have a lift on their truck that resolved the problem? I recall reading that it helped some people. Planning on lifting eventually anyway. My friends truck is lifted but he also has never complained of the noise. He does have a few other things that make noise that may mask it. pro Cai, and pro exhaust, roof rack, and 33’s

    Update:
I took the car to dealership service and after 2 days they decided not to recognize it as a major problem!
The noise is still there and the technician also admitted that he can hear it. We also did a test drive on a new tacoma and he could make the same noise but not as loud as mine. From my experience that new tacoma will end up with same issue as mine. In the report they state that if the noise gets louder they will take care of it.
    Disappointing!
