What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Downshifting does suck, especially 5th to 4th, like off the freeway to an off ramp. I have changed my trans fluid twice with the correct weight and type of fluid (can't recall exactly) but still bulky. Have 250K miles on it will just accept as part of the deal I guess.

 

I suspect. Never measured it. I just know it fits.

Camry 3vz ran to almost 7k rpm. No idea how well it’ll play with the 5vz super long runners

 

Wonder if there's a valve spring difference? I'd love to be able to rev a 5vz to 7K but I'd start to worry about float before I actually worried about the cams capability.

 

Isn't there a rev limiter built into the ECU? You'd need a Camry ECU if that was the case, I would think?

 

Yeah, but these things can be defeated, or just use an aftermarket ECU because to take full advantage of the extra air you'd likely want to tune anyway

 

Springs are the other issue, but the crank will grenade at 6k

I just want to see how it runs proper build would be Camry cams, crank and lcd springs.

I remember your sweet taco from back a ways and hadn't seen you post on here I a long time. Wondered if that taco was still around. It's a nice build hermano.

I have some up and down and in and out movement from one of my rear axles. Would it be safe to assume that the bearing on that side is on the way out? They were replaced about 3-4 years ago, but I cant remember what brand of bearings I put back in.

 

Why not just grab a complete Camry engine and swap that in? Are there other differences?

 

3.0l. Setup for fwd, pretty sure it’s missing the mounts for engine mounts in the truck setup. Also it’s much older fuel setup and obd1, I don’t think many of the 5vz sensors will work on it.

removed passenger rear fender liner plastic grommets in the cold, mid 30s F temp, hands chapped and aching in the chilly air as the sun was going down
these things are a royal pain to take off very very carefully, or perhaps its just the cold
bodyshop quoted me about $83 to remove them (all 4 areas), they probably have more proper tools to yank these safely, idk
perhaps the replacement chinese made grommets will be easier if i need to remove them ever again

 

I'd say yes, but if you haven't, check lug nuts and the backing plate bolts.

 

I checked them with the wheels and drums off. I'll check the backing plate bolts.

 

Ordered the last batch of parts needed for my front-end suspension upgrade.

 

I will let you know what I decide to do. Its been such a good truck and spent most of its life in California and I have undercoated the crap out of it since I bought 3 years ago so it has almost no rust. I believe it only spent one summer in Indiana when I bought it.

 

Replaced the faulty fuel filler cap & cleared the CEL that it had caused. Also received an aftermarket aluminum oil catch canister from Amazon. I'd love to install it but the weather is not cooperating.
