They're the same as the Sport model headlamps. The only reason they need a VIN (which is optional) is to make sure the parts fit.

They're the same as every other 2012 Tacoma's headlights, but the dealership's motives may or may not be as simple as this. When I bought my FJ SE Anthracite Rims, no dealership would sell them to me without an FJ SE VIN. It had nothing to do with fitment and everything to do with preserving the FJ SE's "exclusivity." Providing a VIN from one I found for sale on the Internet overcame the problem and got me what I wanted.

So you defeated the purpose of a HD harness.

Also those H4 connectors looks like plastic.

One of the benefits of the harness is wiring it directly to the battery.

Are they both H9's? Are the low and high beam bulbs the same but the housing is diffrent? One source says one thing and another source says another thing. Does it matter its a TRD Pro? Auto Zone says they're H11's. It's confusing. I just finished upgrading my interior lights to FyreFly LED's and they are awesome. See here

I had the same issue when I wanted to buy a matching spare of my Rock Warrior wheels, which I had originally purchased new in box off of Craigslist. They were ‘VIN locked’. And those are some very rare wheels, so it wasn’t as easy finding a VIN online. While the parts guy wanted to help he said the same thing about protecting the exclusivity of the part. Fortunately I still had the contact info from the person I bought them from years ago to get the VIN.

3rd Gen stock low beam is H11, high beam is H9. You can run an H9 in the low beam by trimming a plastic tab on the bulb, as covered in the 3rd Gen headlight sticky thread.

Ultra bright high color temp map lights are really not ideal. Map light are designed so you can use them at night while driving, as to not be disruptive to the driver’s night vision or ability to see. Placing an ultra bright high color temp light in front of the driver at night will be disruptive, reducing the drivers ability to see and affecting their night vision, even for a while after the light is turned off. In a brightly lit city environment this will be less of an issue than somewhere that has low ambient light where night vision is more critical.

Dude you need to slow your roll. The harnesses he makes are top notch. His support with the issue I am having is over the top. I have no issues with paying for a quality made product. Which this harness represents.

Not everything is always going to be issue free. If your 99.99 percent which reading through this thread thats where Mike is probably at, that’s one hell of an accomplishment.

I too will attest that the Harness I received from him is of unparalleled quality.
Good luck going down the “other path” if you so choose.

Ive yet to see a better or even remotely equivalent quality made harness compared to Headlight Services.

    From the original thread:
You can see the excellent build quality documented here. You can see my side-by-side comparison with the Rallylights harness here.

Mike is quite smart with this stuff, it isn’t always easy to troubleshoot an electrical issue on a vehicle you don’t have access to. He builds all the harnesses himself. There are many people running the Headlight Services harness and only recently has anyone had an issue. I also have a 2015 (same as you) and run it without any problems.

If you want to build your own he offers a complete kit. Of course you can source all your own parts and do the same and you can use cheaper parts. If you start by threatening to return something based on an issue that is still being worked out without all the answers available yet and experienced by only two individuals out of countless sales, I think most vendors would take the safe route and just issue a refund.

Oh shoot, sorry guys. I don't keep a constant eye on the forum to check for updates, and rely on emails to notify me. Unfortunately I received no emails this time, just stumbled across all the new posts while showing my parents the difference between stock and TRD PRO.

That's a brilliant idea, I should of thought of that earlier. It's almost worth having TRD PRO vin up on this forum for general use. Can just imagine Toyota noticing one vin keeps popping up under headlight purchases from all over the globe

Oh sweet, thank you. I took a quick look and the lights look like a very good option. Will have to consider them

I'm assuming by "same" you mean the fitment, and not they actual way it looks? Cause I was under the impression that the TRD PRO got a completely unique housing compared to every other trim level.
While talking with the guy at the dealer, he said Toyota requires a vin because they don't want people buying lower spec trim levels, and then upgrading them to TRD PRO. So it's marketing BS. Almost makes me wanna do it more now.

So it looks like I will have to try find a TRD PRO online and "borrow" it's vin if I end up still going for the PRO headlights.

As far as I know, they are the same :notsure:

I had 2009 Sport headlamps on my 2008. I believe for the later 2nd gens, the dark headlamps were still on Sport models before the TRD Pro was a thing

When I had to provide a VIN for my Rock Warrior wheels, the VIN is first accepted by the dealer, it is then sent to corporate to ensure the VIN hasn't been over utilized. They check and keep lifetime tallies on the VIN, just for that purpose. You must be doing something right when so many people want to buy your product you can just refuse to sell it to them.

The early 2nd Gens (05-11) used the darker smoked chrome on the sport in I think 09+, but it isn't clear to me if the late 2nd Gens used the smoked chrome on Sports in 12+. It may have been exclusive to the Pro in only 15.

Oh man, we could really mess someone up by over using a random VIN then. They wouldn't be able to order parts specific to their truck after a month:D

From what I could gather off a quick google image search (very scientific, i know), it looks like the TRD PRO's have different headlights than the 2012 TRD Sports:notsure:

So my truck is 6 years old 100k miles with a good chunk of night time driving on desolate roads that if left with one headlight it would be bad news.

Needless to say its time to replace the main headlight bulbs and keep the current working ones as a spare part in the truck for that just incase backup! Not interested in going full bore standalone harness and going higher wattage bulbs.

Are the "GE Lighting 9003 NHX/BP2 Nighthawk Xenon" https://www.amazon.com/GE-Lighting-NHX-BP2-Replacement/dp/B00GZHC0JG?th=1 bulbs still a good all around upgrade stock amp draw option? looking for something that not coated as i hate the blue light look and they are hard on my eyes.

With that kind of driving I think this full upgrade is exactly what you’d want.
FWIW the harness install AND bulb swap takes less than 10 minutes. The difference is remarkable and definitely worth it.
