I'm at like 85 miles haha I'm trying! Weekend plans? Shoot me a text, I'll most likely be in Westcliffe at our cabin but there's some mild trails up there that are perfect for testing

Yeah, if you haven't figured it out already from looking at those, the trail is always closed at the 12 mile mark from the east side, since that's the tunnel that is blocked off. Though I find it a bit odd TO refers to the west side as Rollins West - I've always heard it and seen it described as Corona Pass from that side, at least since the tunnel closed. How far did you get in July? Usually it's the shelf right after Yankee lake that is the part that determines whether the whole thing is open or not. Also, just as a heads up, there's a 'side trail' off of that called Jenny Creek which just happens to be one of the few trails in the state that requires an OHV permit even for full size licensed vehicles. See this thread for more info: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ohv-permit-stickers.475829/

Not really what this thread is for, it's more discussion about closures/repair/access stuff (see first few posts, particular #4), not just discussing trails in general. We admittedly have been drifting a bit here in these last pages, what with short term 'incident' closures triggering a bunch of discussion (I'm guilty of this, not pointing fingers at anyone). :anonymous:

I think the event page is really where that would go if you're trying to make a list for an upcoming event. That or just start a new separate thread for it.

This new section is pretty awesome. If you can go 2’ and not hit a diff, you are doing good.

FS guys were pretty cool and enjoyed seeing new sections opened up. One rode with me on Sunday.

Anybody know when Rimrocker is typically open? Finally making an honest attempt at planning a long trip across UT next spring and would like to hit Rimrocker on the way there/back.

@In4aride I wasn't sure which thread had better info, I know it's dependent on snow and that last year's late storms didn't help. I know I could always head that way and find out myself but I wasn't sure if anyone could offer better insight as far as a general timeframe.

In case anyone was wondering about the gulches condition. Ran Hackett (kinda) and metberry today. We turned back at the upper rock obstacle on Hackett. The granite was very slick since we were breaking trail. It is definitely doable now that it melted. We didn’t feel like winching over it or waiting. Metberry we ran all the way with no issues. The big rock slab was fun to slide down uncontrollably, but we were able to drive right back up our tracks. The road itself that gets you to all the gulches had the most snow. Up to a couple feet in areas. Anywhere from 3-12” on the trails themselves.

… you risk putting others at risk for their own safety if something were to happen and you needed SAR or any assistance.

Rainbow Falls OHV is within PSICC (Pike and San Isabel National Forests Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands). There are mud season closures nearby within the South Platte Ranger district: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd712843.pdf
