I started fiddling with this project. No idea you guys were so ahead of me. My new Taco should be here next week and I’ll start on it ASAP. I kind of like the idea of keeping the legs. Might want to set it up on the ground sometime.

Good idea cause u can set up on ground and that way you have a vehicle to go get wood or go to river etc after you are set up. Also going less pricy will let you know if you like it without big bucks.

I have a question for the ones using this setup. Which way are you getting into the tent, from the sides, or tailgate?

If you are getting in from one side, will it hold the weight of the ladder, and the weight of the person just as he gets in/out? I'm asking this because the legs that would normally be there are folded, so it looks like the ends of the tent are "hanging" in the air (actually are pulled down by the straps).

Getting in from the tailgate wouldn't be a problem as far as weight support, as there are cross bars there (usually). But the sides... I don't know, will it hold my 220 lbs without any support underneath?

You're gonna only want to enter from the tailgate side

What’s up guys! I received my double tent cot yesterday from a guy that used it once. I paid 100$ for it! Mine is the Cabela’s version and has some design that I like better than the kamp rite( I have owned one in the past) so here is my set up on some sos bed bars. The Cabela’s version comes with built in cup holders inside the tent. Two storage pockets and a sky view/ window up top. Also it came with stakes for the awning on both sides.

bringing this thread back to life! so i was able to get this project about 95% complete. 2 person kamprite installed on my bed bars. i was wondering what everyone was using for their mattress inside? i know there's the kamprite self inflating mattress, but are there any alternatives? i tried shopping around for air mattresses that i could inflate using the outlet in my bed, but it's tough finding one that doesn't have the most garbage reviews and customer photo reviews.

the way that i have it installed is i kept the legs on there in case i wanted to use it on the ground. when installed, assembled, and ready to use, it hurts to lay on all those folded up legs + bars from the frame.

I use a Klymit double in mine. Fits perfectly.

I do use the bed outlet to inflate it. Takes no time at all.

had an issue with the klymit double...they delivered it to someone in Lincoln, NE..while i'm in california, so someone just got lucky over there. got my refund and got this one instead! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R8ZG8W...olid=15VIF1P4NRLSL&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

it's a bit cheaper, has dimensions that fit fine in my kamprite double. it also has a built in footpump in case you don't have a motorized one with ya. 4.5/5 stars. i just tested it out inside of my tent and i do not feel the bars or anything beneath me at all. :) definitely would recommend!

How’d this hold up? Think it could just be tossed in the bed without the bars?

I have a friend with a full size pickup that does that. Double cot fits between the wheel wells.
