I just purchased a 2000 Tacoma. It starts right up and idles ok, but when I need to take off in first gear I have to raise the RPM's to keep it from chugging out. I cleaned the MAP but have not cleaned the throttle body yet. Any ideas. The truck did sit for a couple of years so it may be bad gas although the seller did say she put gas in it fairly recently. What do you think?

her just "adding gas" won't help if there is old varnished petrol in the lines or TB/plenum/valves.

may need to take off TB and do a thorough clean along with flushing out the fuel lines if possible.

generally you have to increase RPMs to get going unless flat and you can wait two minutes to get up to 30 mph :D

    Tasteful modifications :)
^^ like frizz said, it’s probably an issue with the throttle body and the old gas sitting in the tank for so long.

Put 2 cans of seafoam in a quarter tank of gas. Starts, idles fine. Took it on the road and the only time it misses is when I give it gas. For example: 60 mph cruising no problems but if I try to accelerate I can feel it shaking. It will do this in any gear, but first is the worst because your going from a stop. I added a half tank of premium gas to see if that would help. The missing brought up a p303 code. Cylinder 3 missing. I'll pull that plug tomorrow to see what it looks like. Reading a lot on the forums, it seems it can be anything from a burnt valve, plug, coil, injector, wires, throttle body, etc.... Any ideas?

you pretty much have all of them in your list. plug is easiest to check, then probably coil/wires next

also never hurts to clean up the TB but be wary of carbon buildup that may create gaps, and take it off to clean so all the gunk doesn't run down into the IAC valve

sounds like maybe a bad mass air flow sensor as well. i had the same symptoms on my 2000 4runner (3.4 v6 though) and that was the solution. cleaning it did not help, only replacing. good luck
