Thanks. Pensacola, FL originally but I've gotten around the last 12 years.

Thanks for the info. I haven't camped in years but I have to get my kids away from screens. I'm hoping to have my truck setup with a RTT next year and have some spots picked out to camp and fish.

Well there's tons of great state parks in around here. I'd just start out there and those parks typically have tent pads so an RTT wouldn't necessarily be required. We ground tent camp almost exclusively. https://southcarolinaparks.com/ has most of the details that you'd need, if you find a park you want to check out, ask if anyone's been there from this thread and most likely one of us has and can give you a heads up on good sites and things to do.

Speaking of state parks, we’re headed to Lake Wateree at the end of the month. I was thinking of picking this up and was curious the best way to cook it while we were camping. I don’t have a smoker btw

I would smoke them, for sure... But since you don't have one -- go buy one. Kidding. Here is what I would do.

Cube them up, oil them up, rub them up, put them flat in a foil pan or two and drizzle with honey. Dust some more rub on top of that. Cover with foil, then put them near your fire close enough to cook, but not over the flames. It will take a few hours, but should come out really tasty. Turn the pan every half hour or so, so all sides get heat.

What about using a Dutch oven?

Same approach, but it will cook a lot quicker. You could make a pile in the oven and just stir it now and then instead of laying them flat.

    Another option:

You might be able to figure out how to rig up a smoke box to something like this. I've looked at these at Lowes, and they're pretty neat. Stout, too.

Dang, that’s nice. We have to upgrade to a full sized propane tank first. Plus, we have to keep an eye on weight for the trailer.

    Hi, everybody!

Just joined and introduced myself in the main section and was directed here. I'm resting comfortably in Chesterfield county.

@saundern I glanced back a page and saw where you mentioned Wateree at the end of the month. I'm pulling the camper to the state park the weekend of the 24th. If that's your weekend and you'll be there, maybe I'll run into you.

    Thanks!

Yep! We’ll be pulling the trailer and my buddy will have his RTT as well.
    We’ll probably be driving my gf’s T4R.
