Hello, my name is DL. I recently purchased another Tacoma, Gen 1 this time. I broke a leaf the other day and it has fast forwarded my plans to do anything to this truck yet. I currently commute at least once a month from Harrisonburg, VA to Jacksonville, FL so I'm trying to retain the normal ride and mileage when I replace it. I'm having a heck of a time finding a definitive answer regarding the part numbers and apparently the leaf springs are not interchangeable. details on the truck: 2001 Tacoma Single cab 4x4 2.7L

If anyone could point me in the right direction to finding suitable replacements either aftermarket or OEM I would greatly appreciate it. just not trying to spend an arm and a leg right now. (my wife is already mad enough about it) thanks again and I look forward to talking to yall.

    Regards, DLM

What do you mean not interchangeable? Interchangeable with what?

If you are not wanting to lift it, you have three basic choices. OEM ($$$), General Spring ($$), or any of the various semi generic "brands" from RockAuto.

I had this issue years ago when I was carrying a bunch of music gear to a show with a friend as a passenger. I drove to the show and heard something break, but had no idea what it was at the time. I return from our trip, drop my friend off, and go home. I had to drive somewhere, heard something metallic moving around in the back of the truck, and pulled over. I saw a broken leaf from the leaf spring pack hanging out from the rear passenger side of the truck. I drive back home, duct tape the broken leaf spring back into the leaf spring pack, make a few phone calls to the local junkyards, locate a used passenger side leaf spring pack for $100, and take it to the local auto repair shop that my friend worked at. He installed it for around $100 and that was the end of it. Since I had my OME suspension kit installed, that leaf spring that I bought from the junkyard is sitting in the garage collecting dust now.

When replacing leaf springs you should replace ubolts too. They stretch over time and stretch when being loosened and tightened again. Make sure they are torqued to spec and then checked again for stretching after about 500 miles

I just glance this thread... OP pulled the trigger with general..... IMHO... i will check Michigan truck springs... they have OEM specs to keep stock high, spec for Right and Left , both for about 600 shipped..... I will keep this in mind for whenever i get that budget :spending::mudding:

Lemme rephrase what I said. Dont go with no name brand springs. A lot of people on here use General and have good results. I went with SD springs because they were cheaper but Ive never heard of anyone using them. Like I said earlier, I regret it. If you want oem spec springs, go General.
