I have a 12x13 size bedroom and one of the walls had really old wallpaper on it. The wall is 12 feet long by 8 for high approx. I can’t get the wallpaper off. Somebody told me just to do 1/4” drywall over the wall. Does anyone know how to do that and if so can u please let me know how much ud charge. I’m in Mesa. I can also trade. a set of redline hood lifts and a very cool Toyota storage box. Original grill insert. Or can pay cash if reasonable. Please help lol.

Have you tried a steamer on the wallpaper? If you still want to cover the wallpaper I would go with something like wood paneling.

Yea we tried steamer and everything. It just doesn’t come off. Wood paneling may be a good idea. Something different

I'm no expert by any means, but I've hung drywall before. Super easy if you want to pursue it yourself. Also I'd imagine that by doubling up the drywall you may have issues down the road if you want to use anchors in it as they are designed for a certain thickness.

A double layer of 1/2" increases the burn time allowing escape from fire before the walls collapse.

Just take off the old drywall, then hang new. Perfect opportunity to add outlets, etc while you're in there. You can rent a drywall hoist or just nail blocking up to hold the top sheet while you hang it. Hang top sheet first, then hang bottom sheet. Use a wedge at the bottom to hold it snug while you screw it in. Use a drywall screw bit so you don't overdrive the screw, plus it dimples the drywall so it holds the mud better. Mudding and sanding is easy, just remember less is more. The more mud you put on, the more you have to sand off. Finally, to get a good finish, use a light pointed down the length of the joint. It will highlight imperfections before you paint.

    Any questions, just ask.

Yeah, if you're gonna be buying Drywall anyways, might as well just demo the old stuff and re-hang 1/4.

Do you have an impact screw gun?

Some of the advice is good advice, some is not. Doubt if the OP has an impact screw gun, if he is asking for help. Nor, do you need one. Might not know what staggering is, although he could look it up, and mudding and sanding, a good job, takes some tools, and some skill. Wish I could help you dude, but I’m pretty far away.

A cheap, and easier option, would be for you to buy drywall topping mixture https://www.google.com/search?sourc...hUKEwiHhdyBuN7nAhXiOn0KHT2KBScQ4dUDCAs&uact=5 like one of these, and drywall knife, like a 12”. Do, what is called a skim coat, use thin coats, skim the whole wall, allow to dry in between, then sand, then apply another thin coat, sand then paint when it’s nice and flat. Maybe you can find a neighbor, or friend to help. Good luck. YouTube is a good source for info on what you are doing.

Remember if you add thickness, existing outlets will need a little adjusting. Like one of the previous posts, tear off old, and get (2) sheets of 12ft drywall. Then you only have one seam to deal with.... and corner bead.

Have you tried using a special spray that may help take it off? You should spray it all, wait about 10 to 15 minutes for it to soak in, and then take it off. Another alternative would be to scrape it with a tool literally, but that can take hours and lots of patience. Also, it can turn out pretty bad, so I'd not go for this option. Or, of course, you could combine these two methods plus the steamer, this way, it must come off, haha. I could recommend these painters who are also taking care of problems like yours. It's good you've thought about hiring someone to do the job because we can easily mess up when it's not our field, lol.

what Dr taco said is sound, but even easier would be clean it with TSP, sand it down a bit since you have pieces hanging, oil base primer and then simply paint it.
