So a friend of mine has the above truck things we have done !!!
1st we replaced the bushing in the shifter housing
2nd pulled the transmission and rebuilt it replaced all syncros and 1st gear
The trans is still popping out of 1st gear we are willing to pull it again but don't know what to look for otherwise we would have replaced the part the 1st time.

Was it an over sight you did not mention replacing the bearings while you had the transmission apart ?/

If the shifter bushing and seat did not fix the problem bearing wear is the next thing as they wear it effects how the gears mesh

another strange issue I had someone had installed the wrong shifter boot retainer just enough pressure when things were cooler to push it out of gear

Body lift? That can make the shifter not engage all the way.

Someone above already asked if the shifter fork between first and second gear was in good shape ? The shifter fork is made of alluminum and the hub collar that the shift fork mates with is made out of steel .There is a spec for the shifter fork thickness in the fsm .
What condition was the detent for 1st to 2nd in ? They do wear out
If the shifter bushing is new , the only play remaining is the shifter fork and synchronizer assembly
You said you replaced first gear ? Any chance you measured the thickness of the gear in comparison to the original first gear ?

I also have the factory service manual for your truck with all the transmission specs and overhaul procedures .
Send me a PM and I will send it to you

Mine used to pop out of 1st gear sometimes until I replaced the seat with a plastic Marlin Crawler type. One time I parked at a gas station with a slight incline and someone came in while I was grabbing a beverage and told me my truck had rolled away! Luckily it only moved about 15 ft. back and stopped on a flat spot of ground.

So it would pop out when your were trying to start out in first?
And please show me the part you used to fix it. I can’t fix mine for anything. Mine pops out of first while starting out. Thanks so much for the reply!!!
