So, I saw a thread on a 1st gen 5 lug with v6 coilsprings. Does anyone know if that's possible with our 2nd gen 5 lugs?

I do not believe so, but I would be interested to know for sure. I know the coilovers are different but I'm not sure about the springs themselves compatibility wise

Probably can fit but not well.

From some research I did, the X-runner springs will fit our 5 luggers if you order the X-runner spring pads. But.. . it's highly they'll likely lower the vehicle even though the spring rate is higher.

I've been wasting some time it seems trying to figure out how I can avoid doing a spacer lift up front on my 2nd gen. And do it without braking the bank. The easy options are few and far between.

The theoretical cheapest route to get a lift less than the 2.75" commonly stated by the shock spacer suppliers might only get a 1" lift of so if you want to use a OE spec shock with stiffer springs and prload the spring with an adjuster. will have to deal with a more rough ride and this doesn't give you more travel and will loose some extension travel.

    Factors to know and procure
1.) know the OE spring design and Lbs rating. resting height might be important. also to know if there are dead coils in the design.
    2.) get a OE replacement Bilstein 4600,
3a.) find adjustable spring perch for something that will fit a different spring. can utilize the 4600 snapring to sit on. need something snug fit and adapts to an adjuster.
3b) along with above in consideration for perch, choose a spring type and size - this might be a little guess and check. for a 1" lift, it will depend on weight of front of vehicle so if you have armor, turbo, winch, single vs double cab, all these things will be needed to take into account. Likely you'll need a 550# spring minimum for the lightest 2nd gen. probably 600 linear rate, no dead coils.
4.) pick a top pad for the spring. hopefully don't need a special perch between OE hat and spring. Might need something a little special to keep a smaller than stock spring in place.

2nd cheapest option but better for travel
1.) Probably need to get ahold of Koni or Bilstein and get them to make a shock that has about the same compressed height, but around 2" more of travel.
2.) They'll want to know the corner weights of the vehicle, the general suspension design with dimensions of the lower A-arm and where the shock mounts to the A-arm and what angle it's at with the top mount. Bilstein might just say go float a boat but Koni does have suppliers that help people come up with custom shock applications. Likely they already have something that is around the dimensions we'd need with approx valving that will work.

3rd, some people worked with QA-1 to make a lowering coilover for the X-runner. They should have something that wont lower the vehicle but I think they'd require a new type of top spring perch. Those are available thru a company right now make to order.

    Notes
spring perch for 4600 - I think the ones that come on the OE replacement for out 5 lugs have a removable spring perch. If so, Bilstein does have other perches that will fit the 46mm OD body. For example, they make many B6 and B8 46mm shocks for other vehicle aplications. Audis have a perch that looks fairly universal. No idea how to find the P# of just the perch though. I haven't been able to find it in Bilstein catalogs but I haven't searched that hard.

possible style lower perch to use with 5" spring - but would need to weld on a 46mm ID pc to make it fit
