For those curious. I just did this on my 2.7L. Only really used the 8mm hose. I used a tiny section of the 4mm too. I think you could pull it off with about 6 feet of 8mm hose and 2 feet of 4mm hose.

there was one weird molded hose going from the air box to the vacuum valves on the far right of the engine bay. Both ends were a different size, but I was able to force the 8mm hose over the larger end and put a clamp on the smaller end.

This is fantastic, thank you. I'd admit I don't know a whole lot about the vacuum system, but there are lot of little hoses that I thought were part of it. I put 3 arrows on the main examples I'm thinking of. I have a bunch of hoses on the black box on the right that aren't on Liam's truck above.

Yeah those three little ones you pointed too are vacuum lines that control stuff with the throttle body. I tried replacing them with the 4mm hose but it was too loose and slipped right off. Would’ve needed a 3mm hose or so for it to stay on without a hose clamp. So I just decided not to mess with it. As for the stuff on the right side behind the fuse box, those are all the vacuum switching valves and I cut the mount for my one and moved it so there’s a couple more short hoses that are hidden behind that fuse box and under my aux fuse panel. If that makes sense?

there’s a sticker on the hood that outlines the major vacuum lines, those are the ones that you should replace. I think the only additional one I replaced was the one from the throttle body to the brake booster.

    Ah good stuff, thanks.
Here's the sticker for my 2.7L, which shows those 3 little hoses. Thanks to your efforts, I'll know to look for 3mm hose!

Oh I see yours is a 2000 so the evap stuff was different in the transition year. Just try to replace everything on that diagram, but yours might be a little different than mine. Try to measure the inner diameters of some of those hoses by the canister before you order stuff. Also measure the sizes of the fittings. You’re gonna want the hoses to be a bit smaller than the fittings so they fit well.

    FYI
siliconeintakes dot com is not stocking the "kits" currently.

I've got several split hoses (OE on my '95) and have been chasing codes, rough idle, hard hot start issues for months. I was going to do the fuel pump next, but these hoses are now in my sights.

Placing an order with these guys:
    www.siliconehose.com

Getting lengths of 3,4,6,8 and 10mm.

Yeah I've noticed the kits have been out of stock for at least a month or so. Please report back with how yours goes.

They've been sold out of black since a bit before christmas. They still have the red and blue. I got the red and it looks pretty cool. You can probably get exactly what you need for about the same price by ordering individual lengths

Ordered on Jan-2, arrived Jan-10. I'm on the opposite coast, so that's pretty good.

Plan to begin working on this little project later today.

THIS IS ON MY '95 with 132K miles.

I invested about 2-2.5 hours replacing the hoses. Most were very simple. Took my time, and did one at a time, in order to avoid any snafus.

One tip, if your new hose comes wrapped like mine did in the picture above, just make a slit in the middle and pull out as you need it. Remains clean and then extras will easily go back into storage.

Also, I cut a two inch piece from each of the sizes so I had a gauge for sizing the ID of the replacement pieces. I think there were one or two pieces that were not perfect on both ends. So I picked the size I had which was closest, and used clamps, as needed. I added a couple of more clamps in other spots where I thought it would do some good.

When I got to the PCV vent hose, I noticed that the valve looked relatively new-ish, but when I popped it out, I was horrified by the condition of the grommet. It was hard as a rock. Ordered both parts from Mr T.

The grommet was an absolute bitch of a little job. Could only chew it out in small pieces with needle nose. Used a hooked carpet blade on a utility knife to slice it inside the valve cover. Which proved to be a lucky move, because the damn thing fell inside. Carefully fished it out with long needle nose. If not for the slice, I don't think it would have come out.

I'm not going to say that the new hoses and PCV valve has totally solved my problems, but I know that the condition of my hoses was really bad. Splits everywhere. And when I turned the key, she started up very, VERY smoothly and settled into a calm idle very quickly. Haven't driven it yet.

My truck came out of NV about 2.5 years ago, and very little of its service history is known.

If you're chasing startup, idle, misfire issues, etc, then this could be a piece of the puzzle.

I need to get this done on mine.

Did you buy the kit with extra 8mm?

I havnt read through every page but figured I’d order the same amount as the OP for my 3.4

Anyone have input on what extra they ordered who’s recently done this on their 3.4?

See my earlier post that I quoted.

I ordered way, way too much. But I can easily use it on some of my other old Toyotas.
Can't tell you what I used nor how much is left over, since it's all still wrapped up.

I also bought this kit when the topic came up in the general thread. I started replacing a few hoses on my truck, but just the ones that were cracked. I was matching the inner diameter of the old hoses to the new and ended up with a few hoses that weren't tight enough and leaked. My advice is, when in doubt, use the smaller size - these silicone hoses stretch to fit over the hose barb.

Did you order the 3mm from them aswell? Looks like they don’t sell it any more.

I panic bought blue just now because I misread and thought they were no longer making kits at all, not just having black kits out of stock. :anonymous:

This thread is about thick wall silicone hose kits for replacement of Tacoma vac lines. The silicone hoses can make tight turns without kinking to the point of loss of flow.
