Adding the amp or replacing your current amp?

I will tell you that the sub your picking loves 300 watts. I have the same sub (JBL version) and push it at 2 ohms with a 300 watt amp.

If you plan to bi-amp your speakers then you can use the clarion in there, but if your not bi-amping then its not needed.

    Here is my JBL version

Well I’m open to learning if I should pull the power pack or leave it and use both amps? Yes exact same sub. Same manufacturer just different brand. I’ve also got the infinity basslink sm 8” powered sub I’m running underneath my driver seat. It made big difference

I think I’m officially addicted to adding new audio equipment to my truck. Today was a headache but still enjoyable for me lol the results from just adding the power pack and current powered sub and dq 61 are freaking amazing. Just makes me want more

If you want to do it right, plan out a system and start buying piece by piece. For the amps, I would recommend against getting the 5 channel. If you add another subwoofer, then you will have to get a whole new amp. If you get a 4 channel and a mono amp, then you can use the 2/4 ohm switching on the subwoofer to switch it to 4 ohms, then run 2 of them together to a single 2 ohm load doubling the amps output.
----- so lets say you get the Reference 551A, its rated at 370 @ 4 ohms and 550 @ 2 ohms. You can run your single 10 (switch on sub set to 4 ohms) at 370 watts... then if you want more bass, you add another subwoofer (switch also set to 4 ohms). Run both subs together in parallel to get a final 2 ohm load, this will make your amp output 550 watts or 275 to each sub.
Now if you wanted to the same with the 5 channel you would get 320/500 watts, just a little bit less, but it will also be taxing the rest of the channels in the amp causing their outputs to suffer.

Now if you get the reference 704a, you would get 70 watts @ 4ohms to each of your door speakers instead of the 45 watts @ 4ohms the 5 channel puts out.

You will spend a bit more on 2 amps than a single, but your sound will reflect this.

So in short, if you want the infinity amps, get the 551a and 704a in the reference line, or if you want better amps, get the kappa ones and get kappa four and kappa 6.

Something to keep an eye on though is Signal-to-Noise Ratio, the infinity amps hover around 80db and this is not that great. Im running audio control amps that sit at 102db. So they will give a louder, clearer output.

So in short, decide what your final goal is, how many speakers you plan to run, think of any future upgrades you may make and design a system from there.

This spec can be deceptive. To compare amplifiers you have to know how S/N was calculated and do some math.

The Reference 704A is less than or equal to 85dB calculated @1W
Audio Control amps are calculated at rated power.

To see which one is better in this category you have to do some math. Bottom line, the Audio Control calculated @1W comes to 85dB S/N so these amps are equal in this specification, so you'd move on to something like THD% (Audio Control amps have excellent THD numbers) or price, or power output.

I ran into this trap before when I was being all judgy and in a hurry. Here's the post:

Thanks for the tips and info fellas! I’m hoping that for this small cabbed truck my infinity basslink sm under seat and to infinity 10” sealed behind the passenger seat rear will really give me all the lows I need and deliver the perfect soundstage with the dq 61. Man I really like the audio control amps but they’re also pricey. Infinity seems to be a pretty solid brand and less expensive than audio control, JL, focal. I’ve been impressed with my basslink to be as small as it is. I’m not necessarily looking to bump just want all the clear lows I can get within a budget of around $4-500 on amp/amps and boxed sub

I ordered another input harness for my alpine powerpack so I can use actual rca to rca inputs and build another t harness with my extra Metra pieces. Think it’ll make much of a difference with the dq 61 running rca outputs instead of speaker level?
