All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Check this thread out. Bed Bolts.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bed-bolts.309952/

I would use the bed bolts to attach said mounting plate. If your making the plate out of plywood, use something like Marine Grade.
As far as making connections to the plate. You could use a few different things.
Your could mount tracks on it to tie down whatever.
    https://www.jegs.com/i/RB+Component...MI4dbR0IaR5wIVlpOzCh1erg3-EAQYBiABEgK4gPD_BwE
You could also use a router on the plate should you want the tracks to be flush with the surface when not in use.

Does anyone have dimensions of the gen 2 bed, or know where I can find them? Trying to plan my build but don't have the truck with me...

I redid some stuff today. Made the dividers taller so the top pieces are more “locked” in. Also drilled some holes to make it easier to remove them. Still more work to do. Some waterproof paint or varnish and then carpet or rubber.

This thread is awesome, lots of great ideas and sweet set ups. I'm looking forward to putting a simple platform together this spring and heading south on a good road trip.

I'm hoping to get some advice/opinions on a truck tent. I have two options, a used Napier Sportz, or a brand new Rightline tent, both for about the same price. The Napier's are more expensive new so I know it's a good deal, but new is nice also which leans me to the Rightline,(though I've never heard any experience with that brand). A lot of talk in this forum about the Napiers and people seem happy with them.

My truck is completely stock, pics for reference. Thoughts?

I've got the Napier, used the Napier on our last boondock camping trip; it's a bit challenging to set up, but it works just fine over the truck. The awning is useless. However, the screen porch saved us on that trip; had to move the cooking in it to thwart thirsty bees... ??

I appreciate the feedback. The awning of the Napier was one of the selling points over the other one I was looking at, that's great to know.

That's the idea for us also, more room to move around while camping to get dressed etc. and stay dry if it's raining.

I may have been too hard on the awning. It'll provide a bit of shade at noon...

Looking at the pics of it that makes sense, it's not overly substantial but probably better than nothing. The other tent really has nothing at all for an awning. I'm thinking it'll help keep rain drops off the head while kicking off shoes too.

A few other things about the Napier:

It fits loosely over my Leer cab-height cap. I don't think that's a problem, but I haven't used it in rain yet.

The vehicle opening zips up, so you can pull away from the tent, zip it up, and go about, leaving the tent fully enclosed. What we did was to pull off the vehicle shroud and zip the tent up, then you can drive away. Backing to the tent with a rear view camera is a cinch.

Same cap as me. I was wondering about that, either a tarp over everything or just make sure to park with the front of the truck pointed slightly downhill would probably work. I'm sure we'll hit a rain cloud or two eventually so hopeful the rain stays outside on the seam.

The fact you can leave it behind is a big feature of these. Keep your camp setup while running into town and just reattach when you're back. The camera would be handy for this no doubt.

First post here on TW! I have been slowly building out a storage/platform system in my truck and am looking for some sort of durable plastic/rubber material to glue to the top pieces to improve longevity of the plywood. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Here are a few old photos of what I started with (will take more photos soon of the progress with doors for the side storage doors and left side full-length drawer):

Unfortunately I do not know of a "rubberized coating other than plastidip and that isn't very durable. What you can do is weatherseal them and then maybe used a cheaper durable carpeting over them.

Some are using this to coat base plates they are making out of birch ply. Base plates for mounting to the bed for build outs of units like Goosegear.
