NO OIL IN THE ENGINE

I'm not "certified". But I can certainly take the time to do a proper oil change.

 

You can have a piece of paper saying you are a doctor or mechanic or a spaceman! None of those pieces of paper are worth anything if you don't have the drive or common sense to do the job. Effort and attention to detail make a big difference.

 

I didn't read this whole thread, but a similar thing happened to me years ago with one of my old pickups (not a Tacoma). I almost always change my own oil, but this was when I lived in an apartment with nowhere to work on my truck other than parked in the street, so it was really inconvenient and I just didn't have the time. Long story short, I took it to Jiffy Lube and they put the wrong filter on it, one that was obviously for a much smaller engine. It actually made it home just fine, but then the next day it blew out the rubber o-ring on the filter, rattled the filter completely off, and drained all the oil out. As soon as the low oil pressure light came on I killed the motor and coasted to the side of the road. I had a friend pick me up and take me to the auto parts store to get a new filter and oil for it. That truck ran fine with no problems for many thousands more miles, but it was only running for a few seconds at most after losing oil pressure. It sounds like you drove yours until it was clean out and shut itself off. I would definitely be looking for an extended warranty at the very least. Don't go back after the 1,000 mile checkup and let them tell you it's fine.

Well, he started with my 40lb skidplate on his head, lol. I hope that knocked some sense in to it, although I doubt it.

@Brenda Wirick If you keep the original motor, I'd consider having the oil tested on a regular basis.

Wow, that's disturbing. Makes me feel like avoiding all the free oil changes I get with my new truck, and just doing them myself...

 

TA2016 I thought I was the only one who re-torqued wheels if the shop touches them. Have had one come off on a 1/2 ton I had. Was a good shop with a gold seal mechanics. He made a mistake. Cost him my and others business.

 

Boomer: Pays a buck over minimum wage, gives 1 week vacation after 5 years, requires menial bs work at aforementioned crap wages for 7 years before any real promotion.

No kidding, let's ridicule folks for chasing down better opportunities for themselves than changing oil for years on end. What a joke...

 

I had one that worked for me. He thought his work performance was at a very well level each day, that's what he told me as I was writing his ass up. He went out on stress leave for about 3 months the very next day. He eventually left, told the manager that I asked too much of him. Wow, guess it's to much to ask someone to answer the phone when it rings.

 

the unemployment rate is at an all time low if you don't like a job or feel your not getting paid enough go find another one that's how it works in the real world, everybodies had their fair share of shitty jobs and moved forward to better pastures, nobodies going to hold your hand and show u the way, I almost don't blame millenials because someone who knows better taught them to be like that way.

 

I had one dude(millennial) that worked the night shift after my shift he replaced me, we worked over the Thanksgiving week we were Union wages plus shift differential 10% more per hour, plus double time holiday and sundays double time,plus time and half Saturdays; plus 8 hour shift plus 1 free hour for not having lunch break and the Foreman had to yell at him to get out of his truck and do his job cause he was sleeping all night instead of doing what he was getting an exorbitant amount of money to do, I never seen such a lazy generation of young people even if you pay them the highest wage that is available with the best benefits that can be had on top of it.

 

Had a crew of 8 - 18 to 22 yr olds working for me this fall. Non of them were lazy. None were scared to ask what do I do next. None scared to work long days. All were also in some type of schooling. They joke around and talk shit and act like idiots some times. Restored some lost faith in the whippersnappers.

 

I work with majority 45+ year old ex military vets. Talk about lazy, we get paid very well for what we do. Yet, everyday almost all of them complain about work and how much bs the little extra work we might have to do that day. I know people who’d give an arm to get a job/paid like we do. There’s probably 3-4 “millennials” that work there, we get the job done, no questions, no complaints. Its not a certain age group that is lazy, it’s the environment we live in nowadays. Everyone wants more for less. It’s hard to find good workers, no matter what age.

 

This is exactly what this forum has done for me. I hang out in first gen Tacoma section and the young dudes that hang there are freaking studs man. They're just like us when we were growing up, they just have phones to film all the dumb stuff they do, we didn't have that so we couldn't incriminate ourselves
