My favorite thing about the Super Bowl is getting past 2nd rate football and get on to a real sport. Spring Training is in the air, go Giants and go Twins.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Yeah, still confused on how betting FOR your team is a lifetime ban. It takes more balls to bet for yourself than against, really. He could have made some real cash if he bet against them and played with the lineups constantly. But he at least had enough integrity to not do that part.

Betting was forbidden by MLB. And there's no way to know for sure if he bet against his team. I'm not remembering the time frame of his betting days, but he was a Manager/Player from 84 to 86. His induction to the Hall would be as a player. And he belongs in the Hall as a player. Period. Fuck MLB if they don't let him in before he dies.

It has nothing to do with betting on your team! It’s has everything to do betting on baseball!

It is extremely easy to understand DO NOT BET ON BASEBALL!

In terms of punishment handed down, that's the head scratcher.

Rose bet on his team GASP! Ban him for life.

All while Bonds, Mark M, Arod etc..get jobs as hitting coach, commentator, or bench coach for some MLB team..

Before steroids amphetamines were all too common. The game has been juiced forever but when that bastion of decency, truth, and integrity, congress, goes holier than thou examples must be made because parents are too lazy to be responsible for their child athletes and need someone else to dump the blame on. Now since everyone cheats with cameras and high tech signalling it's okay because it's rampant? The only reason Bonds, Clements, etc, aren't in the hall is because sportswriters don't play the game and like the fictional Max Mercy think themselves above the players. Not all great players are great roll models, they never have been, instilling values that help kids choose them appropriately is up to parents. Consoling and advising kids when they get dissapointed is also their job. The Hall of fame and the farce that is the process of voting has become a joke. Only truly famous players are both widely despised by some and admired by others, nobody remembers or cares about a nobody. That alone should be a clue as to whether they belong.

There was a very real fear of organized crime getting it's hooks into the game since they controlled most of the betting. Betting and losing could lead to financial leverage that almost certainly would have ruined the game. The punishment had to be so severe to have a chance at preventing the possiblity or more importantly appearing to do so. Personally I think he should go into the hall for his accomplishments but I also think any displays should make note of any controversies that provoke the wide array of fan reactions. I think the hall has become too dependent on stats anyway since not all iconic players attain benchmark stats.

I'm still of the opinion that certain benchmarks should be met to be considered.

    300 Wins
    3000 hits
    .300 career batting average
    500 home runs

Those are near automatics to me. Though I still have reservations for players that primarily DH'ed

If you don't have those numbers above, then you had to have had at least 10 years of excellence.

Man who's ready for Opening Day? Let's see who can cheat their way to another world series against the Dodgers? If they get 1 trophy in the next 5 years I will not regret the stupid investment to this team.

The days of the 300 game winners are done. Replace this with 3k strike outs. I don’t think you’ll see 250 game winner with the way baseball does things now.
There’s signs all over mlb club houses and even in dug outs for many years that say don’t gamble on baseball. Every major sports has signs posted it about gambling. It’s like no parking signs you obey that rule your good, if you don’t you get a ticket. It’s just there for a reason.

Ahahha man Giant's fans need some new material. Move on! You think they would stay competitive instead of ripping the fans off by not producing. New year new champ.

Long suffering Dodgers fans will always hate 3 SF Giants WS Wins in 5 years. Last Dodger World Series was what year?? 1988 with highest payroll or at least top 3. No mercy for the Dodgers, they suck now and will always suck.
The Giants can lose 100 games and will still outclass Dodger blue.

    Good luck in 2020.

    I dunno about the 3000 K's.

    Here's my reasoning.

Used to be a guy had pride in not striking out. The greats would strike out 20 to 50 times a year. Between 1989 and 1999 Tony Gwynns highest was 30. Many times (1991 to 1998) this is how many times he struck out per year; 19, 16, 19, 19, 15, 28, 14, 17.

Guys now days strike out 150 in one year and no one bats an eye. With numbers like that a good pitcher has a decent shot at 3000 K's.

you ever consider that it comes down from management and the use of analytics in the game... less so the players raw decision to swing for the bleachers
